Cruel Intentions Spoiler Free Review

“Cruel Intentions” has been transformed from a cult classic ’90s film into a Prime Video TV show. The 8-episode series evolves the story by keeping the integrity of the original movie intact while adding original character development and plot points, making it perfect for old and new fans alike.

The first episode sets up the series and the characters quite well. Lucien (Zac Burgess) and Caroline (Sarah Catherine Hook) make an arrangement that involves Lucien seducing Annie Grover (Savannah Lee Smith) to get her to pledge to Caroline’s sorority. The cast is incredible and perfectly chosen. They are all talented, attractive, and embody the perfect privileged and slightly chaotic look.

“Cruel Intentions” Story starts with the Greek Divide

The main story follows the stepsiblings on their endeavors, while Annie Grover finds herself torn between the sororities and those trying to dismantle the Greek system. This conflict escalates when Annie joins an anti-Greek life protest on President’s Night, despite her earlier lukewarm attitude toward the cause. It appears she is desperate to find a place to belong and is willing to go to great lengths to achieve that sense of community.

An anti-Greek life movement on campus has led to multiple protests. Caroline seems unfazed and appears to be in full control of the situation—or at least believes she is.

Lucien tries hard to get close to Annie, but she isn’t making it easy for him. Annie realizes that her stance is probably incorrect. Now, she must heal her relationship with her mother and figure out where she belongs. Annie is trying to discover who she is beyond expectations and her family legacy. She’s caught in the middle of Lucien and Caroline’s game, even if unaware.

In the last three episodes, Lucien closes in on Annie and, therefore, Caroline. When Annie takes Lucien to a retirement home for his birthday, they get locked in a stairwell, providing an opportunity for them to grow closer.

Cruel Intentions is a tale of Seduction and Betrayal

Lucien and Caroline’s relationship is very up and down. They are clearly infatuated with each other but everyone has their breaking point. And they really test each other’s limits.

The secret driver of this story was really Blaise. He helped orchestrate a lot of the takedowns. He worked very closely with Caroline and he has a really solid storyline all on his own.

The series gives its storylines and characters time to breathe. The character changes were well developed and they were very true to the source material. The added characters and storylines added depth to the world and made the overall story more entertaining. We are left with a lot of loose ends so there is a possibility of a second season.

All episodes are currently available to stream on Prime Video.
