Jessica Jones Season 2 is here and it’s awesome!!! Also, a lot has happened in the last two years.
Now, to be fair, we’ve gotten to see what Jessica Jones has been up to since last year’s Defenders series, however we didn’t get that personal one on one time with her in Hell’s Kitchen like we did in season one of the series. Season 2, in my humble opinion, opened up some new light and brought us all a little closer to our favorite private detective who drinks and curses like a sailor.
Along with the returning cast we have newcomers as well who shine in their roles as well. Janet McTeer joins the cast as one of this season’s villains who has ties to Jessica’s past. Now, I must admit that when I first saw McTeer’s character on screen I thought for sure that it was Laurie Metcalf who played Aunt Jackie in Roseanne, no she’s not, I corrected myself quickly via IMDb. Also joining the cast is J. R. Ramirez from Power, playing the superintendent for Jessica’s apartment building.
This series is filled with prevalent themes and social commentary that are reflected in real life. From the recent wave of Hollywood sex scandals, the #metoo movement, dealing with PTSD, coping with both mental illnesses and addiction. On top of all of that, the main theme in this series is finding your own identity and this series hits all of the points it’s trying to make hard. This series is way ahead of it’s time and a joy to watch it’ll have you thinking and on the edge of your seat waiting for what’s going to happen next and one of the most import lines/lessons in the series is “the more you do something, the easier it gets.”
On the production side of the game, I couldn’t be more happier with the way things went. The series was shot beautifully and the action was practical and believable. That isn’t to say that this was a perfect season of television though, like most of the Netflix Marvel series, there were times that the story kind of dragged on and the pacing was a bit slow, however the show itself makes up for that with characters and situations we can all relate to. The best thing about this season was that all of the episodes were directed by women who weren’t chosen simply for being women but because they’re amazing directors and that’s the direction that entertainment needs to go. As a whole, I give this season of Jessica Jones an 8.5 out of 10. It’s definitely worth your binge watching time. Get on Netflix and watch this show right now!!!
