Biggest Announcements from the Xbox Games Showcase

mmPosted by

Summer Game Fest 2023 is still in full swing, and with Xbox’s recent dip in quality and quantity of games, the hardware and software giant is in dire need of titles for their fans to look forward to. Luckily, today we were treated to their showcase teasing some of their upcoming games and more. Here are the biggest announcements from the Xbox Games Showcase!

Fable

Originally announced in 2021, Fable promises to modernize the fantasy RPG while staying true to its humorous, raunchy roots. Available in 2024.

South of Midnight

From the developers of We Happy Few, this new game was revealed via a gorgeous animation style and sound design. We didn’t get gameplay, but from the reveal alone we’re excited for this one.

Star Wars Outlaws

Another cinematic trailer reveal, Star Wars Outlaws will have a deeper dive shown off during the Ubisoft Forward event on June 12th.

Avowed

After the reveal in 2020, RPG master Obsidian’s Avowed finally got a satisfying gameplay trailer, showcasing magic combat, exploration, and great visuals. Coming 2024.

Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Tactica

The Persona 3 remake has been long-rumored, and was accidentally leaked on Atlus’s Instagram page just a few days ago. Today we got the official reveal, as well as another tactical RPG Persona 5 spin-off. Reload is slated for release in 2024 while Tactica is available November 17, 2023.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II

Of the many reveals, this is my personal most anticipated game shown during the Xbox games showcase. The original was a masterclass in game and sound design best played with a quality headset due to the game’s accurate simulation of psychosis. The sequel promises the same atmosphere but on a grander scale. Coming 2024.

Big Overwatch 2 Update

After cancelling the single-player experience, Blizzard was hard-pressed by fans to deliver an update worthy of their time. Today, they announced that in August, Overwatch 2 will be slightly revamped with a new competitive mode and map, co-op story missions, and more practice features like target practice.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

It’s no secret that CDProjekt Red’s Cyperpunk 2077 had a rocky launch, to say the least. But in the coming years, the developers worked hard to improve the game and it’s now the best it’s ever been (but still best played on current-get hardware). Phantom Liberty is their first (and last) expansion coming this September, and promises the same high-stakes action and well-crafted story the vanilla game provided. Also, Keanu Reeves.

33 Immortals

From the developer of Spiritfarer comes a combat focused 33-player co-op action game with a gorgeous art style. Available 2024.

Payday 3

Payday 3 has been a known quantity for awhile now, but fans were finally treated to a great gameplay trailer and release date: September 21, 2023.

Xbox Series S 1TB SSD

Somewhat of a (welcome) surprise, a new iteration of Microsoft’s entry-level next generation console is getting a revamped carbon black model, sporting a 1TB SSD. Coming September 1, 2023 and starting at $350USD.

Metaphor: ReFantazio

JRPG fans are going to be feasting in 2024 on Xbox. Metaphor: ReFantazio is a pretty looking JRPG in the same vein as Shin Megami Tensei coming in 2024.

Clockwork Revolution

Bearing a striking resemblance to Bioshock Infinite, inXile Entertainment’s newest adventure is a first-person steampunk RPG that looks like it will scratch the itch, at least until Judas is released.

There were countless other games announced during the Xbox Games Showcase, but these were some of my personal highlights. Xbox looks to be making a very welcome comeback starting in 2024, as their Game Pass subscription service continues to impress. What were some of your favorite reveals? Let us know on our socials!

In the meantime, be sure to check out the biggest reveals from the main Summer Game Fest event!
