Boy Kills World Review

Boy Kills World is the latest movie produced by Sam Raimi, directed by Moritz Mohr and written by Mohr, Tyler Burton Smith and Arend Remmers.

Boy Kills World is about a young man called Boy (Bill Skarsgard), whose family is murdered. He then trains himself, with the help of his mentor (Yayan Ruhian) so he can avenge them. His motivation is his little sister, June (Jessica Rothe and Quinn Copeland), who died right next to him. The film seems to take influence from The Hunger Games and Karate Kid. You can definitely expect dark, gritty humor from Boy Kills World in true Raimi style.

Structurally, the film was paced very, very well. Act one not only gave us motivation for our main character, but it also gave us an awesome training montage. It is made very clear that Boy is still very much haunted by the thoughts of his dead sister. It is also heavily implied during this first act that thoughts of her get in his head and interrupt his focus, creating solid foreshadowing. And then of course he meets a pretty girl that supports everything he has vowed to destroy. Seriously, it’s an excellent set up.

Our inciting incident into act two is our main character venturing into the city to kill Hilda, the woman responsible for his sister’s death. He manages to get himself into headquarters but, as predicted, the thoughts of his little sister get in his way. Boy falls into a resistance group that seem to have the same goal as him, paving an easier road for his revenge.

Bill Skarsgård as Boy in Boy Kills World.

Boy Kills World has some insanely awesome fight choreography, and the action sequences are very well done. These scenes are engaging to watch and they don’t have too many cuts, so the action looks very fluid.

Without giving away any spoilers, the film has an insane and incredible twist ending that you will not see coming.

If you like action movies, Boy Kills World HAS to be on your to watch list. It is funny, action-packed, and it genuinely has a great story. This newest film produced by Sam Raimi and directed by Moritz Mohr releases in theaters on April 26th.
