May the 4th and Free Comic Book Day on the Same Day

Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) is an annual event held by the North American comic book industry to introduce new readers to the exciting world of independent comic shops. It traditionally takes place on the first Saturday of May. This year, it falls on a particularly special date – May the 4th, also known as Star Wars Day!

About Free Comic Book Day

The event itself was the brainchild of Joe Field. Field proposed the idea in the August 2001 issue of Comics & Games Retailer magazine. Launched in 2002, FCBD is coordinated by Diamond Comic Distributors, the industry’s largest distributor. Recognizing its positive impact, FCBD has become an official Children’s Book Week event.

FCBD and May the 4th Collide

This exciting coincidence creates a unique opportunity for comic fans to celebrate their love for both galaxies far, far away and the captivating world of comic books. Over two thousand participating stores will be giving away millions of free comics. This offers a chance to discover new heroes, storylines, and genres.

Mark your calendars for May the 4th, and get ready for a double dose of fun! Head down to your local participating comic shop, grab some free comics, and join the celebration of both Star Wars and the magic of comic books.
