Breaking down this year’s Summer Game Fest announcements
The game industry recently had numerous events that replaced this year’s canceled E3 event. Tons of games were shown off that will be released in 2022 and 2023. Myles and Forchy break down the games from this year’s shows, which included an Xbox showcase, PlayStation State Of Play, and Summer Game Fest. Some highlights include The Callisto Protocol, a game from the co-creator of Dead Space, Xbox and Bethesda’s Redfall and Starfield, as well as unique indie games like Rollerdrome, Animal Well, and The Plucky Squire.
Among the many announcements and gameplay reveals was footage of The Callisto Protocol, a new cosmic survival-horror game from Glen Schofield, the creator of Dead Space. Coming to all major platforms December 2, 2022, this title is one of both Myles’ and Forchy’s most anticipated games of the year.
Xbox and Bethesda also finally showed off some gameplay for Starfield, originally schedule for release November 11, 2022 but delayed until 2023. Interestingly, Xbox mentions throughout their showcase that every game that was present will be released within one year of the streams debut. So it can be safely inferred that fans who are eagerly awaiting Starfield only have to wait until Q3 2023 at the latest
Another highlight of this year’s “E3” was Playstation’s State of Play, which Forchy breaks down in detail here. Announcements of note were the official reveal of the Resident Evil 4 remake which was leaked late last year, gameplay for Final Fantasy XVI, and a gameplay reveal for Street Fighter 6.
There were also some amazing indie games showcased, ranging from Justin Roiland’s (Rick and Morty) High on Life, a first-person shooter where your weapons are alive and talk to you in the creator’s signature style, to The Plucky Squire, an extremely unique 2D/ 3D hybrid action-platformer.
