Watch ‘Building a Geek Brand: Surviving a Pandemic’ Panel
It’s hard enough to grow a start-up but even harder during a pandemic! Join industry professionals in the area of apparel, publication, and cosplay as they share about the challenges of starting a geek business, how to survive a pandemic, and how to contribute to Black Lives Matter.
Panel Highlights
Rachel Litfin talks about being unsatisfied with what she was doing before focusing on being a full-time author and how she hustled her way through it. “If you don’t hustle you don’t eat”. She is a self-published young adult author. You can check out her latest Kickstarter campaign here.
Content Creator and Cosplayer Linda talks about her journey of approaching companies and offering her services as a cosplayer. Offering services for free and then making it into a career. She created positions for herself that didn’t exist and forging her own path. You can check her out on Twitch here.
Victor Dandridge is a writer, producer, comic creator, and podcast host. He talks about turning his hobby into a full-time job. Dealing with pushback from well-meaning family members, giving himself a timeline to get stuff done, and making what he wanted to happen. You can see his work here.
Tony B. Kim, the owner of Hero Within, discusses contacting DC Comics for a license when his company was in the first stages of conception. They had not even created anything when they approached DC Comic and got their license. You can shop Hero Within here.
Tony B. Kim “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. What people fail to underline is that it actually almost kills you.”
