Original series Star Trek: Picard premiered at midnight today on CBS All Access. The new show features the return of Patrick Stewart as iconic USS Enterprise Captain Jean-Luc Picard.
The series’ first season includes 10 episodes, which will air weekly. It’s set at the end of the 24th century. Retired from Starfleet, Picard now lives quietly on his vineyard until he is sought out by a young woman who needs his help.
To celebrate Stewart’s return to his most famous role, Hero Within has released a Star Trek: Picard Jacket. The slate gray and black piece features Picard logo sleeve embroidery and the new Starfleet delta on the back. It’s described as “stylish, comfortable, and utilitarian.”
Inspired by Picard’s “impeccable” fashion sense, the jacket features a fleece shell, reinforced nylon shoulders and elbows, and multiple exterior pockets.
CBS is slated to promote the jacket. Hero Within founder and CEO Tony B. Kim predicts the new piece will sell out quickly. He noted the company is running low on some sizes.
Hero Within’s newest release has unique, personal significance to Kim. In a blog post, he talked about his love for the original Star Trek series and Captain James T. Kirk.
“I would have never imagined a new generation would be a reality,” he said.
In the summer of 1986, Kim received a “gift” of what appeared to be a production bible for Star Trek: The Next Generation. He describes the agonizing wait for the premiere of the series in 1987.
Kim said his allegiances have gradually shifted from William Shatner’s original Captain Kirk to Stewart’s Picard.
“Jean-Luc Picard was strong, decisive, courageous yet still human and compassionate. His sense of justice and conviction to do what is right informed much of my youth. Besides being a tremendously talented actor, Patrick Stewart has also been a role model to a ‘new generation.’”
