‘Bungo Stray Dogs’ Season Five Premiere at Anime Expo

Anime Expo brought huge news and exciting content for fans of Kafka Asagiri’s Bungo Stray Dogs. Not only did the creator present on a panel, but fans also had the opportunity to watch the Bungo Stray Dogs season five premiere. After the premiere, there was a short Q and A with Asagiri, Masahiko Minami, Studio BONES President, and Chiaki Kurakane, Kadokawa Producer.

The answers by the panelists were given in Japanese and translated by an interpreter. Most of the answers in this article are paraphrased.

Bungo Stray Dogs Season Five World Premiere

The Crunchyroll Stage hosted the world premiere of the fifth season on Bungo Stray Dogs. The first episode of this new season will air on Crunchyroll on Wednesday, July 12th. Anime Expo attendees got the opportunity to watch the world premiere of the first episode ahead of its release.

The Crunchyroll panel host asked the panelists if there was anything they wanted the audience to know before watching the first episode. Kafka Asagiri said, “How do I do this without spoilers? It’s very…interesting.” Masahiko Minami also had a hard time answering that question without spoiling anything. He said that there was a lot happening in season four, and then he didn’t say anything else. Chiaki Kurakane talked about the opening and closing songs. She said that the music matches what is going on with season five very well.

Q & A

The panel host asked the panelists what it was like working all together. Asagiri said that he works on the script for Bungo Stray Dogs and makes sure everything looks good. In the Bungo Stray Dogs season five premiere episode, the director wanted Asagiri to add an additional line or motto onto the end. So, he did. Masahiko Minami talked about how it took seven years to bring Bungo Stray Dogs into production. He said that Asagiri was like a partner, and when Kadokawa brought him the script, they all worked together smoothly. Chiaki Kurakane said her job as the producer is to spread the word and to get people excited about the show.

Next, the panel host asked Asagiri how he comes up with the characters’ special abilities. Asagiri said, “The entire process is actually incredibly mysterious. Every time, the answer is different. I don’t have a straight answer for this.” He also said Fyodor’s ability is still a secret.

The last question was for Kafka Asagiri. The panel host asked how Asagiri reacted to seeing season four and season five animated. He said, “Amazing! I’m completely blown away by how awesome this anime is.” Then, Asagiri said that it is amazing that they made it to season five because not a lot of people make it to season five.
