CON COVERAGE from Nerdbot-Con 2018

Posted by

For the 3rd year, Nerdbot-Con opened its doors once again for a full day of fun activities and an enthusiasm for geek culture! From panels to cosplay and activities, this year’s Nerdbot-Con was one of excitement for all!

The Venue

The venue was smaller than I expected. While the size was definitely a surprise, it did not hinder any fun or excitement at all. In fact, it did the exact opposite. I notice more people were friendlier and more inviting. The con being small allowed for more conversations with strangers, panelists, cosplayers, and more! The activities were very interesting! Zombie shooting? They had it! Karoke? Most definitely! Video game challenge? Definitely had it! And 11 year-old won a $150 prize! All in all, it was a lot fun to partake in (I may or may not have killed a couple of zombies, so if a zombie apocalypse happens, you’ll want me on your survival team…just saying).

Panels

Smaller cons tend to have more of a focus on specifics in geek culture, such as the Star Wars v. Star Trek Debate and cosplay insight! Had the awesome to privilege both of these panels and a voice acting panels, where legendary voice actors had the stage! This included Rosearik Simons from Invader Zim (2001-2004) and Peter Cullen, from the original Transformers animated series (1984-1987). All brought great insight to their areas of expertise and more for audiences to enjoy. Definitely something worth remembering! Also, being a huge fan of Invader Zim, meeting Rosearik Simmons definitely made my day!

The Cosplay

The part that all of us wait for! The cosplay was definitely interesting, especially in the contest towards the end of the day, with Lost in Space (2018-) cosplay taking home 1st place! There were some fantastic photography sessions for Marvel and DC Cosplayers that took about 30 minutes of countless photographer’s time, including myself! Villains, heroes, rogues, Batfamily, Titans, Cosmic Marvel, and so much more! It was a cosplayer and photographer’s dream! I noticed throughout the convention, it was either comic cosplay or anime, which was really cool to see! Everyone definitely brought in something unique, whether they made it or bought it.

The Overall

For $18 tickets and $15 parking, it was definitely a Saturday well spent! So much to do in roughly half a day! Will definitely be looking forward to it next year and the events and panels that they will have lined up! If you were able to go, I hope you enjoyed your time as much as I did! If not, there is always next year!
