Eckstein’s love for the “Wizard of Oz” franchise is well-known

In 2022, at the HUFS, “The Wizard of Oz” served as the inspiration for the theme, “Coming Home.” This theme was prompted by the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns. Which caused the annual HUFS to be paused. The 2022 show centered around the idea that “there’s no place like home.” For many of the designers, attendees, and those working on the show, the Her Universe Fashion Show represented a home.

The HUFS returned to in-person programming during SDCC, drawing a standing-room-only crowd of more than 2,000 enthusiastic fans who celebrated the “Coming Home” theme.

Presented by Her Universe and Hot Topic, Eckstein, along with special guest co-host, drag icon Nina West, hosted the event. The evening marked a vibrant return of the critically acclaimed event, renowned for emphasizing inclusivity and empowerment.

The 2022 show opened with a humorous and heartwarming “Wizard of Oz”-inspired skit and couture looks. Eckstein dazzled in a deconstructed couture Dorothy look designed by 2014 Her Universe Fashion Show winner Andrew MacLaine. West shimmered as Glinda in a custom bubbly pink gown by Johnny Wujek and John Thomas.
