You didn’t think that was the end of the story, did you? It’s time for a new generation to come to Auradon to experience their own new adventures and possibly right some wrongs, too. Not only did Disney+ reveal a new poster for Descendants: The Rise of Red, but they also released the official trailer.
Former Villain Kid (aka VK) Uma, now Auradon Prep’s newest principal, extends an invite to the school to another VK — Red, the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts from Wonderland. After the Queen of Hearts incites a coup against Auradon, Red and Cinderella’s daughter Chloe travel back in time to undo the traumatic event that set Red’s mother down her villainous path
Time Travel Has Consequences
Uma plans to shake things up and really bring change to Auradon she has always wanted as the new principal. She plans to open up Auradon to all the Kingdoms starting with Wonderland. The Queen of Hearts has other ideas once Red, daughter of the Queen of Hearts is invited by Uma to attend Auradon Prep.
Chloe, daughter of Cinderella and King Charming, and Red’s first meeting didn’t inspire that the girls would be fast friends after. The Queen of Hearts takes the opportunity presented at the welcome party to enact a coup against Auradon. Her Royal Highness demands that Cinderella kneels before her. “I will never kneel to a tyrant.” Cinderella replies as she stands her ground and holds herself with the utmost grace.
“Off with her head!” the Queen of Heart yells wildly.
Red and Chloe must go back in time if they want to save their mothers, except instead of going back to before the Queen of Hearts begins her coup, they travel farther back to when their parents attended Merlin Academy. They must work together to find out what led the Queen of Hearts on that dark path. Changing the past can come at a cost. Like the Mad Hattter warns Red, “When you alter the fabric of time, there are consequences.”
Fact to Face With Mom and Villains
Red and Chloe encounter their mothers back when they were teenagers attending Merlin Academy. Red is shocked to learn that her mom used to be nice. She’s happy, quick to offer hugs, and believes in surprises. It throws Red a little off-kilter at seeing this side of her mom she never knew existed.
They believe Uliana, sister of Ursula, is the reason Bridget becomes The Queen of Hearts. There are a lot of possible reasons she turns from nice to bad. Could it be due to a broken heart of unrequited love, or could Uliana and her band of VKs be responsible? Could it be loss of her friendship with Ella (Cinderella)?
Uliana is the leader of the VKs attending Merlin Academy with Morgie, Hook, Maleficent, and Hades. Others fear her, which she really enjoys. It seems like her octopus arms can appear at her will.
Reaction to Trailer and Cast
The trailer truly shows everyone the amount of care that was taken to create this film and respecting the franchise that started it all. A new generation takes on these iconic characters for fans to fall in love with. Disney bridged the past and present generations of fans with the return of Brandy and Paolo Montalban reprising their roles as Cinderella and King Charming.
