The Doctor’s Earthly Adventures

Elizabeth kicks off the discussion with her overall impressions, noting that while she enjoyed the episode, she expected a more prominent role for Nicola Coughlan’s character, Joy.

A highlight for both hosts was the unexpected sequence where the Doctor gets stuck on Earth for a year. This leads to some heartwarming interactions with a character named Anita and some classic Doctor Who humor as he uses his ingenuity to make everyday objects “bigger on the inside.”

Steven Moffat’s Signature and Easter Eggs Galore

As a long-time Doctor Who writer, Steven Moffat’s influence is clear in this episode. Nate and Elizabeth discuss his knack for taking ordinary concepts and giving them a sci-fi twist, as well as his ability to create memorable characters and leave gaps for potential spin-offs.

The episode is packed with Easter eggs for eagle-eyed viewers. Nate and Elizabeth highlight references to previous episodes, including “Blink,” “The Girl in the Fireplace,” and “The Doctor’s Wife.” They also point out nods to other Moffat projects, such as “The Time Traveler’s Wife” and “Sherlock.”  Check out Elizabeth’s list of Ten “Joy to the World” Easter Eggs You Might Have Missed!
