First Look at Netflix’s “Dragon Age: Absolution”

Today, Netflix released a trailer and first-look images for Dragon Age: Absolution. The animated series based on the popular game franchise will debut on Netflix on December 9th.

The award-winning video game franchise, Dragon Age, has brought players into the world of Thedas with rich stories and introduced gamers to unforgettable characters. The next upcoming Dragon Age game, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, will be a single-player focused experience that further builds on this incredible adventure. But before then, Red Dog Culture House and Bioware will take fans deeper into the world with the animted series Dragon Age: Absolution.

First Look at Dragon Age: Absolution

When a heist against the most powerful man in Tevinter goes south, an elven mercenary named Miriam (Kimberly Brooks) is forced into a desperate fight for survival. Now, to save herself and her friends, Miriam will have to confront the tragic past she’s spent a lifetime trying to escape.

The series is produced by Red Dog Culture House and with Mairgread Scott as showrunner. Scott is so no stranger to geek and pop culture properties. Scott has worked on animated films for Marvel and DC. She’s written comics for both Marvel and DC as well. She’s also well known for her work with the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises. The series is directed by Ki Yong Bae and written by Mae Catt, Tim Sheridan, and Mairghread Scott.

Impressive voice cast

Dragon Age: Absolution is set in Tevinter and features an ensemble of new characters inspired by Dragon Age lore, including elves, mages, knights, Qunari, Red Templars, demons, and other special surprises. The cast for this series is stacked!

Kimberly Brookes has been working in voice-over since the 90s. She’s voiced on everything from film, and television to video games. And on Dragon Age: Absolution she voices the show’s protagonist Miriam. Miriam is an elven mercenary who escaped enslavement in Tevinter, Miriam is closed-off to many who know her. But her heroic nature shines through when she’s forced to confront the nation that destroyed her life, and the man at the heart of her misery.

Celebrated voice actors Matthew Mercer and Phil LaMarr voice actors also make up part of the cast as Roland (LaMarr) and Fairbanks (Mercer). Fairbanks is a veteran freedom fighter. Rolan is described as having an effortless demeanor, charming, and as having an unmatched grit. When disaster looms and all seems lost, Roland is as sure as the blade he wields.

Ashly Burch plays the bubbly Qunari mage who has a penchant for explosions. Qwydion is an open-hearted, easily-distracted blabbermouth who can level a building or cure a hangover, depending on the situation.  Sumalee Montano voices Hira- An idealistic mage, Hira hopes to rekindle her relationship with Miriam while advancing her relentless crusade against Tevinter. But a terrible secret will put both at risk.

Keston John voices dwarven Lord of Fortune, Lacklon. Lacklon is a fierce fighter, a born brawler, a complete glory hound, and just enough of a coward to make sure he stays alive. Josh Keaton is the intelligent and charismatic, Rezaren. Who is determined to build a better future for everyone in Tevinter, no matter the cost. Zehra Fazal will voice Tassia.  Dutiful and hardworking, Tassia turns a blind eye to everything that doesn’t meet her moral standards. But even she won’t be able to ignore the sins of Tevinter (or Rezaren) forever.

Dragon Age: Absolution will debut on Netflix on December 9th.
