Fun and romantic movies to watch on Valentine’s Day

mmPosted by

Alright lovebirds, here is our list of fun and romantic movies to watch on Valentine’s Day. This is by no means meant to be an ultimate list or anything like that. Although some of these films have instances of serious tones, romance, and heartbreak, the majority are just fun. They are perfect for a low-key Valentine’s Day at home with someone you love.

Valentine’s Day

First on our list is the 2010 film Valentine’s Day. Because duh, it’s Valentine’s Day. Directed by Garry Marshall, the film features an ensemble cast that includes, Jessica Alba, Kathy Bates, Jessica Biel, Bradley Cooper, Patrick Dempsey, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Topher Grace, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Queen Latifah, Taylor Lautner, George Lopez, Shirley MacLaine, Emma Roberts, Julia Roberts, Bryce Robinson, and Taylor Swift.

The film is set in Los Angeles, CA on Valentine’s Day and takes us through the events of a group of people all looking for love. It’s goofy and sweet and just fun. You can rent or purchase the film on Prime Video or Movies Anywhere.

Crazy Rich Asians

Certified Fresh by Rotten Tomatoes with a 90% critics score, Crazy Rich Asians is the story of Rachel Chu who is accompanying her boyfriend, Nick, to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore. However, she has no idea that her boyfriend’s family is extremely wealthy, and he’s considered one of the country’s most eligible bachelors. Rachel must now contend with jealous socialites and Nick’s disapproving mother.

Available to rent or purchase on Prime Video and currently streaming on HBO Max.

He’s Just Not That Into You

This probably isn’t one of the more traditional Valentine’s Day movies, but it does have a romantic happy ending. He’s Just Not That Into You is set in Baltimore and looks at the relationships of several interconnecting couples that are dealing with the challenges of trying to figure out love in a modern dating atmosphere. Well, modern for 2009. Although it’s a little dated in some aspects (like technology and some less than politically correct language), the story itself is still pretty relatable.

The film is based on the New York Times bestselling self-help book He’s Just Not That Into You by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo. The book was published in 2004 and later adapted into a film. This film features an all-star cast including Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Kevin Connolly, Jennifer Connelly, Bradley Cooper, Ginnifer Goodwin, Scarlett Johansson, and Justin Long.

Available to rent or purchase from Prime Video.

Modern Love

Okay, this one is not a movie. The television series Modern Love is a great weekend binge-watch. Each episode is a stand-alone love story and features an ensemble cast.

Modern Love

Modern Love is an Amazon Original series with an impressively star-studded cast. The stories are inspired by The New York Times column of the same name. The series is a Prime Video exclusive.

Always Be My Maybe

An adorable and quirky film streaming exclusively on Netflix, Always Be My Maybe was written by Ali Wong, Randall Park, and Michael Golamco. It stars Park and Wong as childhood friends who haven’t seen one another since their brief fling ended badly. It’s full of heart, really funny, and has appearances by Daniel Dae Kim and Keanu Reeves. Adorable, fun, and romantic just about sum it up.

Enchanted

Enchanted was just so cute. Yes, I know this is a kid’s movie and not your typical Valentine’s Day movie. However, this really is a feel-good romantic comedy. A young maiden named Giselle (Amy Adams) in an animated land called Andalasia, who is about to be wed, is sent away to real-world New York City by an evil Queen. There, she meets a cynical but kind single father played by Patrick Dempsey, the 2000’s era go-to for a romantic lead. Before he knows it, this single father who takes a realistic and logical approach to life and love is suddenly swept up in romance and whimsy. Adams is charming, delightful, and hilarious. The story is both a parody of and love letter to Disney princess movies. It holds up pretty well (for the most part, no film is perfect) since it came out in 2007. The music is catchy and fun, the comedy subtle at times and completely silly at others. It’s a feel-good story that is fun to watch.

Dusney’s enchanted

Considering that Enchanted 2 is currently in the works, this is as good a time as any to give this movie a try. Available to rent or buy on Prime Video and currently streaming on Disney Plus. Honestly, this is a great Valentine’s day movie to watch.

Love Birds

This film starring Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani is more fun than romantic. It does have hints of romance, but it’s mainly a funny movie about navigating your relationship while trying to not get arrested for murder. Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani are really funny and the writing is witty and clever.

The Big Sick

Kumail Nanjiani may be one of our favorite leading men. The Big Sick is a critically acclaimed romantic comedy film written by Emily V. Gordon and her husband Kumail Nanjiani loosely based on their actual real-life love story. It stars Nanjiani, Zoe Kazan, Holly Hunter, Ray Romano, Adeel Akhtar, and Anupam Kher. It follows the story of a couple who must deal with cultural differences after Emily (Kazan) becomes ill and is in a coma.

The Big Sick is available to stream on Prime Video.

Sylvie’s Love

Sylvie’s Love

Definitely more on the romantic side is Sylvie’s Love starring Tessa Thompson, Nnamdi Asomugha, Regé-Jean Page, and Aja Naomi King. The fun comes from the sweet gentle story of love that ends in a charming happy ending. A beautiful ensemble cast, gorgeous costumes, sets, and sounds make for a great romance film.

If you are a sucker for great swoon-worthy love stories, then this is definitely it. It’s currently available to stream on Prime Video.
