General spoiler warnings apply for Game of Thrones Season 8

Did the fanfic you spent two years creating in your head play out on the season 8 premiere of Game of Thrones? Ours didn’t! But all the reunions we had been waiting for happened and they were so awkward and so tense.

It has been so years of war, betrayals, trying to survive and enough mind games to drive anyone mad. So now that all of our favorite people have reunited, they must face the consequences of all they have done! Those in the Stark family who have survived look very different from when we first meet them in season one. They are all grown adults now. They have all been through the unimaginable to make it this far. What should have been a happy reunion for most characters we love has been anything but that.

Arya, The Hound & Gendry

The Hound doesn’t seem too pleased to see the girl who left him for dead. Awkward.  But Gendry seems to be more than happy with seeing the woman that Arya has turned into. But as always, Arya is all about business. She doesn’t have time for pleasantries. Hopefully, we find out next week what the contraption is that she requested Gendry make for her. But we are ready to go down with the Arya and Gendry ship!

Arya & Jon

They have been apart since season one! Sansa says in season 7 that she wished Jon had been there to greet Arya when she arrived in Winterfell. Because more than anyone she knew Jon would be happiest to see her.

Jon was absolutely happy to see her. That jump hug under their sacred tree was everything we had hoped for. But very quickly we find out just how little they know about one another and what they have each suffered during their time apart. “Have you used it?” “Once or twice”. War has changed them. Time and Trauma has changed them. Awkward. How will Jon see his beloved Arya once he learns that a girl has no name? Arya seems to doubt where Jon’s allegiance lies. But that hug at the end makes us think that there is hope. But do not forget that this is Game Of Thrones. Hope will most likely result in heartbreak. Do not get attached.

Sansa meets the Mother of Dragons

Tensions are obviously high. Sansa knows very well not to trust anyone. She has learned so much from women like Cersei and men like Little Finger. She has been sold around from royal home to royal home. Sansa has completely come into her own and she isn’t buying anyone’s bullshit. She isn’t blinded by Jon’s love for Daenerys and she isn’t hiding it either. Sansa truly knows how to play the Game of Thrones.

Sansa & Tyrion

Our fanfic dreams were crushed when Sansa and Tyrion finally reunite. Although you can tell that they both still care and respect one another the exchange is as cold as Winterfell. Sansa is clearly annoyed and disappointed that Tyrion would believe a word that Cersei says. She knows first hand how dangerous it was to underestimate Cersei. Had Tyrion and Sansa reunited under different circumstances we may have seen the loving reunion we all wanted. But currently, Sansa is trying to protect her homeland and her people and can not be bothered with Lannister lies and false hope. Awkward.

Cersei & Euron

Ewwww Cersei. How far you’ve fallen. Sending assassins after your brothers, even though one of them is potentially your baby daddy (starting to doubt she is pregnant). Then you meet with Euron and give the most amazing line “If you want a Queen, earn her” but then you still give it up to that creep.

You did to yourself what you complained your father had done to you. I had hoped that all the trauma your father put you through when he married you to Robert and then tried to marry you to Loras would have kept you from repeating the same mistake. Now you’re selling yourself for an alliance.  That’s why you don’t deserve the elephants. You could do better than that guy. Even if you are a crazy evil queen. Awkward.

Samwell Tarly, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen

It was so awkward and heartbreaking to see Samwell take the news of his family’s death? What could he do? Lash out against the Queen and meet the same fate? There are bigger things at stake here and his knowledge is vital to saving everyone. But Samwell revealing his parentage to Jon Snow was the ultimate clap-back.  Your Queen slaughtered my family, so let just screw up your whole world. Awkward and Tense.

Theon Rescues Yara

Theon almost effortlessly rescued Yara while Euron was busy getting it on with Queen Cersei. Yara punches him in the face and drops him for it. Awkward. He deserves it, but still. How did he suddenly win his way onto that ship? Maybe he finally realized what a badass he is. This new confidence has set his sister free and set him on a path back to Winterfell.

The Nights Watch

Oh thank goodness they are alive!!!! But man they are screwed!!!! So much tension! They may have survived the attack on the wall but it doesn’t look like anyone on the path to Winterfell will.

Bran & Jaime

Oh man! As much as we love Jaime Lannister and all the personal growth he has made as a person, especially that moment in the last season when he basically gives Cersei the finger as he rides toward Winterfell, we can not forget that Jaime Lannister was an evil jerky jerk who pushed an innocent kid out of the window with no remorse to protect his incestuous relationship with his twin sister. And he is about to pay for all of that this season. It will be hard to bullshit his way through all of this with Bran alive and gifted with the vision to see everything. The most awkward and tense!
