On September 3rd and 4th, Anime Impulse hosted a convention at the OC Fair and Event center. Anime Impulse OC brought many incredible English dub voice acting talent. Among those voice actors was Kaiji Tang. Kaiji Tang has dubbed the English voices of a number of anime characters.
Interview with Kaiji Tang
A few of Kaiji Tang’s most recognizable roles include Satoru Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen, Osamu Dazai from Bungo Stray Dogs, and Sanemi Shinazugawa from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
We asked Kaiji what the most rewarding part of voice acting has been so far. He said:
“Well I mean…from an acting point of view, just if you’re really passionate about acting, being able to create this many characters over and over again on such a consistent basis, that’s like the dream, right? But for me, personally, since I am an anime fan, it’s being able to like, be a part of like, you know, the lore and what haves of like all these great shows. It’s super fulfilling.”
Now, there are two big seasons of anime coming up for two of Kaiji Tang’s characters: Gojo in season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen and Dazai in season 4 of Bungo Stray Dogs. We asked him what he was looking forward to for these characters.
“Well, Gojo, I know he has a really big arc coming up. It’s a lot of stuff about his, you know, his time in school, him and Geto’s relationship. So all that character building for an actor is going to be super, super fun to do. And for Dazai, I’m just like, a tiny spoiler, I’m just sort of, I’m just sort of confused and looking forward to how they plan to localize that dialogue in the prison.”
There is a fun debate in the anime community, where fans want to know who would win in a fight: Kakashi from Naruto or Gojo? The comparison being they are both white-haired sensei characters, while one has his eyes covered (Gojo) and the other wears a mask over his mouth (Kakashi). Kaiji weighed in with his answer:
“You know what? I love Kakashi. You know, he was a great, he IS, he’s still a great sensei, still great character. I think the power scaling in that fight is not to his advantage. Right? Um, yeah, I would, I would, with a heavy heart, I would probably say Gojo would win that fight.”
