Temple of Geek Chic Style Profile: Kylo Ren fan Julie Failde rocks anime-inspired looks!
Julie Failde, @infinityjules, rocks a Kylo Ren tattoo on her wrist, so you can probably guess her favorite fandom. She also enjoys Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, anime, K-pop, and Sarah J. Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses book series. The aspiring YA writer describes her geek style as a “real-life anime girl look.”
What are your diehard fandoms?
I am a diehard fan of Star Wars. It sometimes feels like it is my lifeblood, I even have a Kylo Ren tattoo on my wrist and want so many more! But I also love Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, anime, K-pop, and recently have been getting SUPER into reading and am obsessing with the A Court of Thorns and Roses series!
How would you describe your personal geek style?
I feel like my style has changed a ton, even in the last couple of years. Right now, I constantly strive for a “real-life anime girl” look. This often includes pleated skirts, baggy and tucked-in shirts, and sneakers or Dr. Martens. I also am heavily influenced by Korean fashion and try to incorporate it with geek shirts or based looks to fuse the two together. Some of my fave places to shop from are Apari, which is featured all over my blog and Instagram as I’m constantly wearing her merch, and Jordandene, for the comfiest and cutest geek tees with quotes.
What favorite geek fashion items can be found in your closet?
I’m a big enamel pin fan, so I try to add them onto my looks as often as possible, either adding them on the collars of my tops or placing them on my bag. I feel like they sometimes give the outfits a bit of flair and really pull everything together. Another favorite of mine is hats. I have so many with simple geek logos that really complete some of my looks.
Describe your go-to geeky outfit.
My typical go-to looks consist of something high-waisted, either jeans, a skirt, or shorts, and a baggier t-shirt or sweater with some kind of geekery and my white sneaks or Docs. I like the simplicity and comfort of it, but if done up with accessories or a neat bag, then it really completes the look. In this pandemic, I have been a huge fan of my boyfriend-fit Adidas sweats, and a Jordandene cropped sweater!
Where do you find yourself searching or shopping the most for your geek fashion needs?
My go-to shops are Apari (@apariart on IG) and Jordandene (@jordandenenyc). I’m actually an ambassador for Jordan, so you can use my code, “infinityjules,” to get 15% off for yourselves! I also adore Her Universe and everything Ashley has done for the community.
My recent obsessions have been Jedi Kaylin Embroidery (@jedikaylin) and all of her Star Wars-themed tees and sweaters that are beautifully embroidered and @virgovvitch (also known as @elithienart) for absolutely gorgeous jewelry and enamel pins.
Feel free to shout out any personal geeky passions, projects, or business endeavors:
I am constantly trying to pursue different geeky adventures! I am a co-host for the Star Wars-themed podcast RoundTable PodRacers and have actually just started a new one with a friend about K-dramas, K-pop, and anime called Finger Hearts Club that has yet to debut!
I also am in the process of editing my first novel with hopes of publishing it! It is a YA magical realism/supernatural story that I finished just before 2020 ended and have been working with an editor (shout out to Write & Day) to fix it up and plan on sending it to literary agents in a couple of months! It’s a super exciting but daunting process and I cannot wait to see what happens next.
