Sources tell Variety that Matt Smith will joining the cast of Star Wars Episode IX! There is no word yet on what role he will play, but it is hinted by undisclosed sources that Matt Smith will play a KEY role in the next movie! Matt Smith is a veteran in space travel. He is best known for his role as The Doctor on the hit television series Doctor Who. He played the staring role as an alien from the planet Gallifrey who travels around in time in space in his police box (space ship) known as the TARDIS, with human companions from Earth.

Other newcomers to this latest Star Wars installment include Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, Dominic Monaghan, Naomi Ackie and Billy Dee Williams who will be reprising his role as Lando Calrissian. They will join current cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver. Previously shot footage of the late Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa will also be used in Episode IX.

Star Wars: Episode IX is co-written and directed by J. J. Abrams and is set to be released on December 20, 2019.
