The fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy gets a major style upgrade in a fashion print by Heroicouture. One of the brand’s most subtle designs, the pattern is a delightfully unexpected homage to the Millennium Falcon. Now you can pay tribute to one of the most celebrated spaceships in sci-fi history without shouting your Star Wars fandom from the rooftops.
Founded by Sandra L. Botero, Heroicouture caters to an overlooked demographic of “chic geeks.” A fangirl since childhood, Sandra found there weren’t many geek fashion options for women, aside from men’s t-shirts. She began altering and embellishing the tees and making her own clothes to suit her style. Eventually, she founded Heroicouture as a made-to-order company. The brand has since expanded, but the apparel is still handsewn and features fabric designs by Sandra and her daughter, Jaime L. Botero.
Heroicouture recently signed a licensing deal with GameMaster, a new esports reality show slated to begin filming next month in Atlanta. Sandra will design official merchandise and apparel worn on the series, hosted by Wil Wheaton.
Temple of Geek Chic recruited real-life geeks Beatrice (@suprbee), Stephanie (@thethriftnerd), and Maddie (@maddie_whovian) to showcase styles in Heroicouture’s Millennium Floral collection. Here is our review.
About the Millennium Floral print:
If someone passed you on the street wearing this print, you might not notice the tiny Millennium Falcons blooming from paisley foliage. It’s a great example of Heroicouture’s “Easter egg” details, perfect for geeks who like their fashion classy and subtle. Inspired by the ship that made the Kessel Run in under 12 parsecs, this damask pattern boasts rich jewel tones. The print is completely unique due to its pairing of non-traditional colors and intricate florals with Star Wars imagery.
Millennium Floral Ruffle Sleeve Top
The Millennium Floral print provides the perfect pop of decadent purply-blue on this cold shoulder-style top. The black bodice is a great contrast to the bold design of the feather-light sleeves. Both elegant and geeky, this top is also light and comfortable. You could easily dress it up or down and wear it just about anywhere.
Model Beatrice said she was surprised at the softness of the poly-chiffon sleeves. She pointed out that tops in sheer fabrics tend to be itchy or stiff, but that’s not the case with this silky top.
Beatrice wore a size Medium. This top pairs well with Heroicouture’s Millennium Floral Palazzo Tuxedo Pants.
Millennium Floral Tie Sleeve Top
A fun variation on the Ruffle Sleeve Top, this design features a tie sleeve you can knot for a stylish twist. The poly-chiffon sleeves are light and breezy and the knit bodice is super comfy. Wear this flattering, flexible piece with a skirt, work pants, or jeans.
Stephanie modeled a size XL. This top also pairs well with the Palazzo Tuxedo Pants, pictured below.
Millennium Floral Palazzo Tuxedo Pants
Simply put, these are a beautiful pair of pants. Featuring a tuxedo stripe with the vibrant Millennium Floral print down the sides, they’re luxuriously soft and flowy. We love the way the fabric moves when you walk and we’re even more in love with the hidden pockets.
Beatrice was obsessed with these pants. She couldn’t get over how comfortable they are. She wore a Medium.
The Palazzo Tuxedo pants also look great with Heroicouture’s Millennium Floral Dolman Top.
Millennium Floral Asymmetrical Cardigan
This design feels like a cross between an open-front cardigan and an elegant wrap. It’s delightfully drapey, almost cape-like, and extremely fun to wear. The three-quarter-length sleeves and light, stretchy fabric make for dreamy comfort and an attractive fit. This overpiece would instantly dress up a plain outfit. And it’s got pockets!
Maddie wore a Medium. This cardigan pairs well with Heroicouture’s A-line Skirts and Palazzo Tuxedo Pants.
Millennium Floral Face Mask
Every season is face mask season, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Stephanie said she loved this Heroicouture mask because of its shape and softness. It’s handmade and machine washable. Best of all, you can match it to your Heroicouture outfit.
Millennium Floral Headband
Take Han Solo’s beloved space ride for a spin with a soft headband made from the same knit used in Heroicouture’s clothing line. This accessory could be worn with almost any outfit.
Maddie also tried out the Star Tiles Headband, which features another colorful, surprising Star Wars-inspired print. The headband is reversible with elastic on the end for a flexible fit. It’s made of 100% cotton woven fabric and hand sewn.
Millennium Floral Scrunchie
This scrunchie features Heroicouture’s signature soft knit fabric. Wear it as a tiny but memorable homage to a sci-fi classic.
Overall
The Millennium Floral pattern is perhaps Heroicouture’s most subtle print. We appreciate that it allows us to rep our Star Wars fandom in a fun and dramatically different way. Whoever thought Millennium Falcon chic would be a thing?
Throughout our photo shoot, the models gave excellent feedback about the clothes and accessories. They noted the comfort of the designs and softness of the fabric. The sizing is inclusive, ranging from XS to 3X (4X and 5X by custom order).
One of the things we like the most about this brand is its commitment to creating more fashion choices for women.
“Inclusivity is something very, very important to me,” Sandra said.
“Options for curvy women are very limited. Especially curvy women that aren’t juniors. I think everyone should have the opportunity to wear clothes they like no matter the size or age. The more choices women have, the better.”
Heroicouture makes it easy to build a geeky wardrobe with items that can be mixed and matched to form complete outfits. Any of their pieces would make great holiday gifts for the geeky fashionista in your life.
Heroicouture’s 2021 collection also features prints inspired by Doctor Who, Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Also, take a peek at the brand’s latest print, which we’re very excited about.
