Paradoxes and Possibilities: A New Time Travel RPG

With the popularity of Dungeons & Dragons, Call of Cthulhu and others, comes a new table top time travel based roleplaying game (RPG) developed by James Bojaciuk and Sophie IIes.  The game launched on Kickstarter earlier last week and has already smashed through its funding goal!  With five days to go, the project is looking at making a clean sweep of its stretch goals.

“I was interested in creating an RPG,” says IIes the game’s co-creator, “and as I had been playing RPGs with friends over lockdown I really wanted to try. As James’ interests and mine align with being time travel fans from Back to the Future to Doctor Who and beyond, I wondered if there was a way to make a specifically created time travel RPG, for anyone and everyone which was easy to start playing.”

What Players Can Expect

Paradoxes and Possibilities is designed to be played by two to six people.  All but one of the players create a character they will control in the game through equal parts improv acting and straight game play.  The remaining player takes on the role of Time Master; controlling the world, the overall story and the characters your party interacts with.  In addition, characters are able to construct their very own time machine within the mechanics of the game and choose from six different classes.

Bojaciuk says:

“I’m most excited about giving players the ability to explore all of time and space. The first two movies I remember watching were Raiders of the Lost Ark and Back to the Future. They established my love of history, historical fiction, and, of course, time travel. Paradoxes & Possibilities is, for me, a way of bringing those loves to tabletop players everywhere.”

Different scenarios will be provided for the Time Master to choose from, one of which is written by yours truly.  “The authors we’re working with on this project are first class. M.H. Norris, Kara Dennison, Dane Reboe, Jon Black, and John Dorney have made our day and made our game something truly real, and I can’t wait for everyone to play their scenarios.”

However, the Time Master can create a world from the ground up if they prefer.  The game is flexible, rules-light and beginner friendly.

“I’m excited for new players,” continues Bojaciuk, “We designed this game as the perfect entry point into the hobby, with clear, fun rules that will let people jump right in with their friends and have the adventure of a lifetime. We hope new players give it a shot! You won’t regret it!”
