Peacock’s “The Resort” Discussion – Temple of Geek Podcast

In this episode of the Temple of Geek Podcast, we break down our thoughts on the critically acclaimed Peacock Series “The Resort”. “The Resort” is a multi-generational, coming-of-age love story disguised as a fast-paced mystery about the disappointment of time. An anniversary trip puts a marriage to the test when the couple finds themselves embroiled in one of the Yucatan’s most bizarre unsolved mysteries that took place fifteen years prior.

The Resort

The Resort isn’t easily defined as a genre. The show was pitched to audiences as a murder mystery through its trailer. But it is so much more than that. It’s also a sci-fi love story that asks questions about destiny and what is “meant to be”. In this podcast episode, we break down what we believe is the genre it falls under.

In the show, Emma (Cristin Milioti) and Noah Reed (William Jackson Harper) have headed to the MayanRivier for the ten-year anniversary of their marriage. However, a discovery on their trip puts their marriage to the test. Soon the couple finds themselves embroiled in a bizarre unsolved mystery that took place fifteen years prior. A mystery involving the disappearance of two young adults, a mysterious death, and a once-in-a-century hurricane. Through their detective work, they connect with various people, each seeking to come to terms with something from their past. And in pursuing the mystery of what happened to the missing young adults, they confront questions about life, love, and the disappointment of time. A part detective story, part Indiana Jones-esque adventure, part epic love story, The Resort will take you from the edge of your seat to the depths of personal reflection and back again.
