Today, Disney+ released photos and the teaser trailer for the much anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series. This new, limited series will launch exclusively on Disney+ on May 25th and takes place in the Star Wars universe. The series stars Ewan McGregor, reprising his role as the iconic Jedi Master. It also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader.
Disney+ is the dedicated streaming home for movies and shows in the Star Wars universe. The series was first announced at D23 in 2019 and fans have been holding their breath ever since.
The story begins 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, where Obi-Wan Kenobi must face the aftermath of the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord, Darth Vader.
A poster for the series was previously announced that featured Obi-Wan Kenobi walking through a desert which we assume is Tatooine. This is where he lived both as a way to hide his existence from the Empire that was out to kill all Jedi and also as a way to keep a close eye on the son of Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker. Tatooine is the home world to the Jawa and Tusken Raider species that are depicted throughout the Star Wars franchise, but most recently in The Book of Boba Fett.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is directed by Deborah Chow and executive-produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor, and Joby Harold.
Along with the trailer, Disney released several images from the show. We previously knew that joining the cast were Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.
Entertainment Weekly shared exclusive first-look photos from Obi-Wan Kenobi coinciding with the trailer release.
