Butcher and Becca
Butcher (Karl Urban) receives information from Grace (Laila Robins) during a secret meeting. Not only does she give him the address of a restricted facility where VOUGHT keeps his wife and her son. She also advises him to look into the case of Supe “Liberty”, as that would help him bringing VOUGHT down. While Butcher sets out to find his wife, he tells Hughie (Jack Quaid) and Marvin or Mother’s Milk/M.M. (Laz Alonso) to take care of the “Liberty” matter. Eventually, Butcher finds the location of his wife Becca (Shantel Van Santen) and hides in her car. To be able to talk, Becca drives her car into the woods out of sight of the security cameras.
When she tells Butcher about her encounters with “Homelander” and that she is willing to end her own life to keep her son away from him, Butcher realizes he needs to get her out as soon as possible. They spend an intense night together, but soon realize it’s not all a happy reunion. Becca obtains, that Butcher doesn’t care for her son “the fucking Supe freak”. To Butcher, he is an obstacle to flee with Becca and have a life together again outside the VOUGHT facility. Becca is heartbroken, but returns to her home and Butcher has to leave without her. Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) approaches one of VOUGHT’s workers and forces her to run a facial recognition search to find Butcher. They catch him on camera after he overcomes the boundaries of the facility on his way out.
The Oncoming Storm(front)
Although she is new in The Seven, Stormfront (Aya Cash) becomes popular amongst the people quite fast. She is different than what the other Supes are (or pretend to be) and won’t let VOUGHT treat her like a marionette. Through social media, she keeps contact with the regular people and her fans. She is showing them for example what it’s really like behind the scenes of video shootings. Stormfront clearly doesn’t mince her words when speaking about her employer – and is loved for that. But there are two people that are not fond of her: The Female (Karen Fukuhara) seeks vengeance for her killed brother. She plans to assassinate “Stormfront” during her speech to the public, but Frenchie (Tomer Kapon) can stop her last minute.
Homelander (Anthony Starr) observes Stormfront and her actions suspiciously. He is jealous of her rising popularity and fears for his position as leader of The Seven. After clicking through hundreds of memes denouncing him and cheering her on, Homelander confronts her. Stormfront has a hard time not mocking him, and rub his nose with how little effort she became the most popular Sup. Eventually, she rows back when she realizes that Homelander would stop at nothing to maintain his leadership position. In order not to get killed, she appeases him and offers her help to gain back his popularity.
To fathers and sugar
Annie (Erin Moriarty) asks to be taken on the mission to find out about Liberty. She approaches Hughie right after Homelander had been physically attacking and threatening her at VOUGHT. Even though M.M. is not impressed by this idea at the beginning, he can be persuaded. During the road trip to North Carolina, the two establish a bond and M.M. tells Annie about his father and his tireless fight against VOUGHT, which he paid with his life. Annie also talks about her childhood, the father who went to eat chocolate-covered doughnuts with her, although her mother kept a strict eye on Annie’s weight. The father who really loved her, but who ultimately left the family because he could not live with the exploitation of his daughter, the superhero. Annie and M.M. toast their fathers with doughnuts and coffee. Before they continue their travels the three have to witness a terrible car crash. In order to not get discovered by VOUGHT, Hughie and M.M. forbid Annie to use her powers to save the people that got hurt, and they drive off.
The truth about Liberty
When they arrive at the given address, they meet a woman who at first refuses to speak to them about “Liberty”. M.M. convinces the frightened woman that they are not working for but against VOUGHT by telling her about his father and how his father fought to take down Vought. The three learn about the long-kept secret of Liberty, a superhero who brutally killed the woman’s brother in 1979. VOUGHT paid the family to sweep the story about this racially motivated hate crime under the carpet. The woman, who was a child back then, couldn’t convince her parents to go to the police. Although she couldn’t see the Sups’ face, the woman is certain that Liberty is none other than Stormfront. Despite the fact that the incident happened decades ago, Hughie, Annie, and M.M. think that it could actually have been Stormfront, as they do not know exactly how Compound V works.
About Tattoos and Skeletons
Throughout the episode we see several women talking to someone off-screen. They bring up stories about what love, communication, and relationships mean to them personally. One of them relates to the story of 6,000-year-old skeletons that were found hugging one another in a grave as THE ultimate proof of endless love. Another of those get’s reminded of a tattoo of Ed Sheeran she got together with her boyfriend. A really good looking lady ensures those off-screen, that she would do anything for her counterpart in a relationship. It’s in these last scenes of that episode that we see The Deep (Chase Crawford) and his self-proclaimed manager from the Church of the Collective, who are casting a wife for the Supe by interviewing these women. By finding a perfect candidate for him to marry, they hope to be able to rehabilitate his image, which should bring him back in The Seven.
Homelander against everyone
As he’s still upset by what happened last week, Homelander physically attacks Starlight/Annie while they are alone in the Tower’s elevator. He dislikes the fact that she defied his direct order to kill Hughie during their last mission, and accuses her of treason. Starlight can convince him, that she is done with Hughie and he as her enemy is no longer part of her life. Homelander doesn’t see through her lie and lets her go.
Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) and Homelander are guests on a talk show that brings up the topic of Compound V and the lack of diversity among the Supes, as there is 92% percent of them with a Caucasian origin. Homelander defends them by saying The Seven have A-Train (which he fired prior to the talk show, unknown to the public), Black Noir, and also a gay Sup. By exposing Maeve, Homelander wants to put The Seven and thereby himself back in a better light. Maeve is shocked about his reveal but fears less the public opinion than for the safety of her (ex-)lover Elena (Nicola Correia-Damude). Despite all efforts to keep this a secret from Homelander, he was able to find out and now has a means in hand to keep her going the way he wants her to.
Doppelganger
After his encounter with Stormfront, Homelander visits Madelyn (Elisabeth Shue) who actually is the unnamed Supe “Doppelganger” (Dan Darin-Zanco). He took her form to please and comfort Homelander on his command. When Homelander confesses he doesn’t need anyone but himself, Doppelganger changes his appearance into “Homelander” and tries to seduce him. Homelander reacts with disgust when “Doppelganger” takes his form and attempts to seduce him. While Doppelganger talks about the public loving him, Homelander kills the Supe by breaking his neck.
