The gaming community often gets a bad rap. And it’s usually deserved. But there have been times that the gaming community did well. Today, we’ll share some stories of personal and publicized good deeds for a feel-good topic about the gaming community for once.
Retro Rebel Podcast is hosted by Amanda Fox and Stacy Bishop. Each week they take a deep dive into the gaming industry and discuss news stories, the current games they are playing as well as the topic of the week.

What we’re playing
Amanda – you’ll never believe it but I’ve actually been playing Octopath Traveller. This is such a Stacy game, lol. But I really like it. I think it’s the music? It’s very relaxing. I just sort of space out. I don’t even look at the stories, I skip them all. So bizarre. Obviously, I’m still playing pokemon and they had a fun spring event over the weekend that had some unique character art for the event which was cool.
Stacy – I’m the worst. I’ve played very little last month. But I did finally play the Final Fantasy VII remake!
Gaming news
E3 2021 will be online– This makes total sense given COVID and tbh, I’ve always just watched it online anyway. And I’ve never had the desire to go to a sweaty, stuffy convention to see video games I’m going to buy digitally anyway.
British Esports group calls for disabled tournaments – In what’s a great move for equality, BEA is hoping to create tournaments that specifically cater to those with disabilities. This is great and will provide another avenue for those using Adaptive Technology to compete.
Activision/Blizzard CEO takes a pay cut!? Bobby Kotick has accepted a 50 percent pay cut to his base salary, but – Still a multi-billionaire…

Main topic – Times the gaming community was awesome
The gaming community often gets a bad rap. And it’s usually deserved. But there have been times that the gaming community did well. Today, we’ll share some stories of personal and publicized good deeds for a feel-good topic about the gaming community for once.
Amanda – Personally, a lot of good has come from my interactions with gamers. I’ve met lifelong friends and even started writing and recording for Temple of Geek because of my virtual gaming relationship with our founder, Danniel. When I experienced a devastating personal change of circumstance, some guildies helped me with rent money to keep me from going into arrears. I have always been eternally thankful for that. One of my favourite published stories was about a gamer who saves his friend from having a seizure from 5000 miles away.
Stacy-I’d say most of my interaction with and within games has been great! I’ve also met lifelong friends through a shared love of gaming and the culture surrounding it. World of Warcraft has been a part of my life for over a third of my existence, and there are so many stories of good coming from that game. From marriages to funerals to memorials for friends that have passed on, the community of Blizzard’s World of Warcraft has accomplished some wonderful feats of goodness.
