The Rose Bowl is known for hosting some pretty amazing events in its 99-year history. This past weekend, Prime Video transformed this historic Los Angeles landmark into the adventurous world of Invincible. Invincible is an hour-long, adult animated superhero show that revolves around seventeen-year-old Mark Grayson, who’s just like every other guy his age — except that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man.
Invincible
Invincible is an adult animated superhero show that revolves around seventeen-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), who’s just like every other guy his age — except that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). But as Mark develops powers of his own, he discovers that his father’s legacy may not be as heroic as it seems.
Invincible will also star Sandra Oh (Killing Eve), Seth Rogen (This is the End), Gillian Jacobs (Community), Andrew Rannells (Black Monday, Girls), Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Mark Hamill (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Walton Goggins (Justified), Jason Mantzoukas (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Zachary Quinto (Star Trek), Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), Melise (The Flash), Kevin Michael Richardson (The Simpsons), Grey Griffin (Avengers Assemble), Khary Payton (The Walking Dead) and more.
Invincible is not your cookie-cutter superhero show. Viewers can look forward to a number of twists and turns each episode. It’s not immediately clear who is the good guy and some characters are a complex mix of both bad and good. The characters on the show are flawed and far from perfect. This makes them feel a little more relatable but it does make things a bit unpredictable.
The Rose Bowl Transformed
The event was set up to respect social distancing guidelines with a drive-in showing of the first two episodes of the show. Upon entry, guests drove past a smoldering pile of rubble as they heard a newscaster describe deadly attacks and supervillains over their car radios.
Much like some of the other Prime Video fan events, there was a theatrical element to this event. As guests made their way into the drive-thru, they saw two Global Defense Agency (GDA) vans where agents provided each vehicle with top-secret swag bags before telling them to report to Art’s Tailor Shoppe. The Global Defense Agency and Art’s tailor Shop are both things we see in the first two episodes of the show and throughout the series. All cast members who approached guest’s cars wore masks and remained a safe distance away from guests. Their voices were being amplified by speakers.
Surprises for Fans
Guests then drove through an Invincible archway where they paused for a commercial break to hear ads for Art’s Tailor Shoppe and Burger Mart, as well as a GDA public service announcement. They then drove into Art’s Tailor Shoppe where they experienced a surprise and delight moment featuring costumes from Invincible’s best-known heroes.
Guests were then guided into the drive-in by Invincible himself via a fantastic photo moment making it appear as if the hero is holding the car over his head while airborne above the city. Fans then made a pit stop at Burger Mart, a beloved neighborhood spot from the show, where they picked up an Invinci-Burger or Omni-Vegan Burger to enjoy in their cars. A live DJ entertained guests as they settled into their spots before watching the first two episodes of Invincible.
In between Episodes 1 and 2 of the screening, attendees were surprised with the ultimate Invincible treatment where their cars were splashed with “blood” as seen in the show. This was especially cool! We were absolutely taken back by it. The show itself is intense and interesting. It was definitely a very clever and fun way to engage fans.
Invincible airs exclusively on Prime Video.
