Have You Seen Star Wars Scene 38 Reimagined?

Scene 38 is the scene number from A New Hope, where Vader confronts Obi-Wan. Looking back, one would point out that this scene did not have the flare that fans should have seen.  Here are two former friends that are seeing each other for the first time after their last confrontation. This should have been an intense battle between former master and apprentice. Sadly, what we got was really tame. Even, dare I say, lackluster?

Chalk it up to the age of the actors, technology, or whatever, we all can agree that we wish that scene should have been intense. Like, Rogue One intense. Lucasfilm has yet to present fans the fight they deserve in any of the re-releases that have come out yet. So a group called FXitinPost took it upon themselves to do it for them. And it is actually pretty damn good!

Take a look at Star Wars SC 38 Reimagined…

The video’s description states “Scene 38 ReImagined” is about the final confrontation between Ben Kenobi & Darth Vader in “A New Hope” nearly 20 years after the events of “Revenge Of The Sith.” This is a one-off story driven scene reflecting the characters in its chronological order from the point of Revenge of the Sith through Rebels, Rogue One, and all canon material leading to A New Hope.”

The short uses scenes from the original film and newly filmed footage to show viewers how this would fit into the film. It starts off with Obi-Wan sneaking around the Death Star until he meets up with his former protégé, Vader. We get the lines that were spoken between these two and then the fighting begins.

You can feel the intensity of every swing of the lightsaber as they strike. You can feel the emotions of hatred that Vader has for his former master as he continues to strike him relentlessly.

There are even callbacks to the other films. When Vader appears on the screen, he is in a darkened hall and ignites his saber like in Rogue One. There is even a point during the fight when the Dark Lord of the Sith uses the Force to hurl boxes at Obi-Wan as he will do to Luke in The Empire Strikes Back.

For this being a fan film, it looks absolutely amazing! Yes, the effects look a little unpolished, but not because the VFX team didn’t try. You can tell that this team poured their hearts and soul into every shot and visual effect. I am sure if the team had several million dollars to play with, it would look much better then some of the VFX we see in films today.

I cannot stress enough how amazing this short is. This reimagined scene finally gives audiences the painful ending of the two former friend’s relationship. I really hope that LucasFilm takes notes on how to redo this scene for the inevitable re-release that will come once The Rise of Skywalker comes to home video.

Hats off to the VFX that put this together. You finally have given me the final confrontation that I always imagined in my head. But what do you think of Scene 38 Reimagined? Did you find this short amazing or do you think what we got should not be messed with? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
