Sk8 the Infinity is a new anime that follows a second-year high school student named Reki Kyan and his love for skateboarding. Reki meets Langa Hasegawa, a transfer student, and teaches him how much fun skateboarding is. They spend some of their evenings at a secret skateboard event called “S,” in an abandoned mine, where there are no rules. Sk8 the Infinity was released on the Funimation streaming service in January of 2021 and has been nominated for several Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
Sk8 the Infinity Crunchyroll Anime Award Nominations
The first nomination this anime received is for “Best Antagonist.” The antagonist in this series goes by the name of “ADAM.” He is a mysterious, dark character who created the secret skateboarding event, “S.” ADAM, whose real name is Ainosuke Shindo is an antagonist most of the fans of the anime can agree to hate. That said, this is what makes for a great villain. ADAM’s Japanese voice actor is Takehito Koyasu, and his English voice actor is David Wald.
Another nomination this anime received is for the category “Best Character Design.” Michinori Chiba is the character designer for Sk8 the Infinity. Michinori Chiba has also worked on other anime, such as Hunter x Hunter, Mobile Suit Gundam, and One Piece Movie: Strong World.
Two of the English voice actors have been nominated for the “Best VA Performance (English)” category. Reki Kyan’s English voice actor, Matt Shipman, is one of the nominees. The other is ADAM/Ainosuke Shindo’s English voice actor, David Wald. Both give excellent performances in this anime.
Finally, the ending sequence was nominated for this year’s “Best Ending Sequence” category. The ending sequence for Sk8 the Infinity uses a song called “Infinity” by the singer-songwriter Yuuri. You can listen to the song here on YouTube. The sequence includes swaying palm trees and adorable animations of each of the main characters performing (and, failing) skateboarding tricks.
