On September 8, 2022, Paramount+ announced a new teaser for the series finale of Star Trek: Picard along with the appearance of a new starship, the U.S.S. Titan-A. The announcement was made during a live-streamed event on Star Trek Day held at the Skirball Museum in Los Angeles, California. The teaser was introduced by series star Patrick Stewart on-stage during the global live-streamed “Star Trek Day” celebration during a panel featuring Patrick Stewart, Jeri Ryan, and Michelle Hurd as part of the Star Trek Day festivities.

In addition, it was announced that season three will debut on Thursday. February 16, 2023, exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. Following its premiere, new episodes of the 10-episode long final season will be available to stream weekly on Thursdays.

You can watch the teaser trailer here:

From the trailer, the appearance of the U.S.S. Titan-A pays homage to the lineage of the design of the Star Trek ships and their different classes. Picard showrunner Terry Matalas has even admitted his penchant towards the design of the Constitution class of starships on Twitter in a quote tweet below:

In addition, Star Trek fans especially of Star Trek: The Next Generation era, will recognize some familiar faces making their return in the series finale. Announced in April earlier this year, characters from the ST: TNG era, Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden), Worf (Michael Dorn), Geordi LaForge (LeVar Burton), Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), William Riker (Jonathan Frakes), and Data (Brent Spiner) will reprise their roles with Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard for this final season. Despite being listed as part of the casting announcement, it appears that Spiner’s role is being kept secret. Also, this will be the second appearance of both Frakes and Sirtis to the series after making an earlier appearance in the first season of Picard. Although the appearance of these cast members may appear that this series finale will be a “reunion,” Stewart made the following statement regarding that notion at the Star Trek Day event,

It’s not a reunion. It is an essential gathering of all of the most important elements of Star Trek: The Next Generation in order to do what they do best.”

To the delight of many fans and those in attendance at the Star Trek Day festivities, the teaser trailer also gave us a glimpse of Jeri Ryan’s character, Seven of Nine aka “Seven” in full Starfleet uniform appearing in command of her own starship. It was nice to see that the tease from the last episode of season 2 of Picard carried over into this finale when Seven was field commissioned by Picard himself. Furthermore, it appears that Beverly Crusher will get to see more action as she was seen carrying a phaser rifle. Michelle Hurd will also reprise her role as Raffi in this series finale.

The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. For season three, Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Terry Matalas, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Aaron Baiers, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Doug Aarniokoski and Dylan Massin serve as executive producers. Terry Matalas serves as showrunner for season three.
