Style Profile: Cosplayer, model keeps looks comfy, casual

Posted by

When it comes to style, Rachel Ly (@ladyraegun) prioritizes comfort, pairing up leggings and boots with geeky t-shirts, hoodies, and accessories. A model and fan of Star Wars, Tron, Batman, and Marvel, she lets her “inner cosplayer” out to play by putting together casual cosplays.

What are your diehard fandoms?

I would say my diehard fandoms would be Star Wars, Tron, DC (Batman specifically) Marvel, Disney, and Harry Potter.

How would you describe your personal geek style?

I would say my style is pretty casual. Comfort is usually my main priority. For the most part, I tend to live in leggings and boots or flats, so anything I wear in addition to that is normally a geeky t-shirt or hoodie or it’s shown off in my jewelry. I have a couple of cute nerdy dresses I like, too, that are fun to accessorize and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

Another thing I enjoy is doing casual cosplays, but that’s normally only if I am going to a theme park or to a special event, but it can be a lot of fun picking out items that could work to look like a specific character. I think that is where my inner cosplayer comes out to play.

What favorite geek fashion items can be found in your closet?

I have quite a wide closet of nerdy shirts. Some of my current favorites are my Star Wars Baby Yoda front tie shirt, my long-sleeved Vans Deathly Hallows midriff shirt, and my long-sleeved Haunted Mansion shirt. I have a Marauders Map dress from Hot Topic that I love, a Boba Fett dress that basically looks like his costume, and I have two Her Universe dresses that were designed by friends of mine — one is themed off of Iron Man’s suit and the other Rapunzel from Tangled. I also have quite a few subtle nerdy earrings by Unpossible Cuts and a Black Panther earring and necklace set by Rock Love Jewelry that are amazing.

Describe your go-to geeky outfit.

I would say my go-to geeky outfit would be a pair of neutral leggings, a nerdy shirt with some matching earrings, and depending on the weather, a simple jacket, and some cool boots. For the most part, I like to go for subtlety.

Where do you find yourself searching or shopping the most for your geek fashion needs?

I buy most of my geek fashion on Hot Topic/Her Universe, but before Covid, I loved shopping at the Disney parks because they always had some really unique items. Sometimes you really have to search but there are some awesome gems at the more boutique stores off the beaten path.

Feel free to shout out any personal geeky passions, projects, or business endeavors:

My main geeky passion is cosplay and modeling, it’s my main joy in life. I have a couple of exciting projects in the works so stay tuned! You can find me at instagram.com/ladyraegun. And you can follow the podcast at thenerdlys.com.
