Summer Game Fest 2026: Blood Message Delivers Gripping Historical Action

Summer Game Fest 2026 unveiled incredible games across all genres, and one standout title is Blood Message. Set in late 9th-century China during the Tang Dynasty, the story follows a messenger tasked with delivering a critical dispatch. Players will traverse 1,000 miles (3,000 li) through challenging landscapes to beat all odds in this unsung hero’s tale.

Blood Message Game Preview

Blood Message was one of the games available to preview at Summer Game Fest 2026. The video game event took place from June 5–8, 2026, acting as the anchor of the summer gaming season. The multi-day showcase featured world premieres, major industry announcements, and updates from global publishers and independent studios alike. The highly anticipated event was broadcast globally and hosted a live, in-person audience at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Developed by 24 Entertainment and published by NetEase, a preview showcased 19 minutes of gameplay from a chapter titled “The Letter.” The chapter highlights the game level Shazhou City. This single-player, action-adventure game offers a cinematic, narrative-driven experience. Fans of Ghost of Tsushima and Assassin’s Creed will likely appreciate Blood Message’s historical setting and immersive storytelling.

First Impressions

The initial moments of this chapter are slow, allowing for an in-depth exploration of the deeply detailed environments. For example, players can interact with items inside homes that deepen the history and reveal more of the story. At this point in the game, the messenger moves through a village, trying to find his son alongside his brother. The gameplay is smooth when maneuvering through pathways, featuring subtle signal cues that do not detract from immersion. The lighting and environment are stunning, allowing players to appreciate the landscape while learning the game’s mechanics.

As the chapter opens up to a brighter, rougher terrain, combat begins against a group of soldiers. Blood Message features realistic combat, stealth elements, and brutal executions. Similar to other titles in this genre, the fighting includes light and heavy attacks, parrying, weapon blocking, and dodging. The combat feels as passionate as it is bloody and intense, making it believable that the messenger is fighting for something truly important. Furthermore, the fighting mechanics feel generous with reaction time windows, keeping players completely locked into the experience.

Interspersed with these bouts of brutal survival combat are distinct stealth segments. Players must move through broken, hidden crawl spaces and avoid detection by the soldiers’ radar. Eventually, the combat culminates in a high-stakes chase scene that transitions into a cinematic sequence. After the messenger is given his next task, this well-paced chapter comes to an end.

Blood Message is currently in development for PC and consoles.
