Temple Of Geek Chic: Friendly Spirits Collection by Elhoffer Design

Temple of Geek Chic is where Temple Of Geek puts nerdy and geeky designs to the “Geek Test”! We get members of the geek community to model and style fashions from various designers around the world! This week it was our pleasure to check out another collection from Elhoffer Design. Elhoffer Design was founded by Catherine Elhoffer to create higher-end apparel for geeks like her. She designs pieces that flatter the body, pulling from modern fashion trends, and helping her fellow geeks of the world to be both stylish and chic. Previously we have reviewed their Queens of Winter and their Galactic Apparel Collections. This week we are taking a look at their Friendly Spirits Collection. This collection is inspired by the beautiful characters and themes from the beloved movies by by Studio Ghibli

Lost Girl Cropped Sweater

The Lost Girl Cropped Sweater is inspired by the Movie Spirited Away. It comes in a very stretchy knit fabric. Much like many of the Elhoffer collections we have looked at, the design aligns with modern styles and trends, and it is subtle in it’s design and appearance. It is a nod to our favorite characters without being overwhelmingly geeky. It is soft and warm. And very easy to pair with a lot of what you may already own in your closet. The high quality materials used make it easy to pair with dresses, skirts and even a pair of jeans. It looks great on different body types. If you are someone who isn’t super comfortable showing a lot of skin in your mid section, i recommend something high waisted to wear with it. We loved how our model, Alice, styled it with this little black dress.

Forest Neighbor Oversized Sweater

Whenever I hear the word “Oversized” I immediately think comfort. Oversized means I can crawl into it, live in it, and be me in it. That is exactly what this Totoro inspired sweater does. It is casual and fun and very comfortable. But it is intended to be worn loose and comfortably. My favorite thing about this sweater is the thumb hole. Makes you feel totally wrapped up in it.

This is a perfect sweater for a Fall or Winter day. But as our model, Riley, paired this outfit with shorts and a pair of boots, we are inclined to say that is also a great sweater for Spring and Summer. The design of the sweater is a little bit cosplay and a lot of bit bounding!

Forest Princess Dolman

This Princess Mononoke inspired dolman is probably my favorite of the three pieces we got to try out. I think it is the detachable faux fur that does it for me. Having the option to keep the fur on and being able to remove it gives you so many options when it comes to styling. And it feels like owning two different sweaters. It’s amazing how something so simple can make such a difference in the look of a sweater.

I loved what one of our models, Lane, said as she was wearing it: “Do I look as fancy as I feel in this?” . There is something so extra and so fierce about that faux fur. Our models had very similar ideas about how to style it. But they definitely each brought their own fire to the look! Our models Riley and Francesca show off the dolman with the faux fur below!

The dolman is meant to be worn open and it comes in two sizes XS-L and XL-3X. What impressed me the most about this piece and where you see the quality of the design is in the sleeve. It is not a printed design. The design is in the knit. The same goes for the other two sweaters above, but it just stands out so beautifully in this dolman.

Clothing from Elhoffer Design is made to last. They are made for everyday life. While they may be more appreciated and recognizable on a convention floor, the designs and even the materials used make them perfect for everyday wear. In an effort to be earth friendly, these collections are limited availability and if you want to get your hands on them, you need to order asap.
