Temple Of Geek Chic: Fright Glam Style Tips from The Fright Friends

Alyce and Katie are Horror junkies who review all things scary. You can catch them on their YouTube channel or on Instagram as Fright Friends. But today they are helping to teach us how to keep the ‘Fright Glam’ looks going all year round!

We started by asking them the basics about their style. Where they shop, how they pull together their outfits and advice on pulling off these looks!

Finding what works for YOU

I like to play around with different outfits that compliment my body type and fashion sense. I prefer to be more risky with my options than to be more conservative. When you dress with a statement like ‘Goth’ you can’t really be shy. Everyone is already going to be looking at you because you look different or out-of-place so you might as well make it something special to look at. – Alyce

I guess to add on to what Alyce was saying, don’t be afraid to un-apologetically be yourself. I think what makes any style “right” or fitting is the confidence in just doing what feels right to you. If you wanna wear something but you don’t think other people would think it was “cool” ,do it anyways. Do it because you like it. You may surprise yourself. And for people who don’t know where to start, start small. Transition into it. Get one thing you like. Add to it here and there. Then slowly build from that, I think it helps you get comfortable in what you’re wearing rather than letting the clothes wear you. In the end just have fun. -Katie

How to get the look

Alyce and Katie suggested that when it comes to getting the look, make -up, plays a large part of getting the right vibe. Make up you use doesn’t have to be expensive of any particular brand. You just need to know how to apply it. They both suggested YouTube as an excellent place to find make up tutorials. They both credit YouTube and each other for their make up knowledge. Make Up styling did not come naturally to either of them. Finding a tutorial for the styles you like can go a long way to helping you rock the look. Alyce has some great advice about being confident in your style. “It comes down to your makeup and accessory choices. If you have a vampire-esk outfit on you can’t have natural makeup. Be as daring as your outfit choices and own the look. In the end its a daring look and you can’t be afraid to get creative and not worry about what people might think or say. Own everything about it. ” Dramatic eyes are really what sells the look.

Shop the look

Katie suggested starting small and transitioning into goth styles. This is definitely an affordable way to go and it helps figuring out what works for you before spending a ton of money trying to re-brand yourself. She credits HotTopic for being her go to place to find pieces that work for her. She also suggested shopping for clothes at Halloween stores when they are in season. Her Freddie Kruger sweater was a costume piece that she is able to wear all year. She keeps most of her looks simple. Her most distinctive pieces are her shoes or her accessories. She mentioned that just adding to what you already have in your closet can make style more affordable.
