Temple Of Geek Chic: Queens of Winter Apparel by Elhoffer Design

Temple of Geek Chic is back this week with our second look at Elhoffer Designs! If you didn’t catch our first look at Elhoffer Designs, let me catch you up! Elhoffer Design was founded by Catherine Elhoffer to create higher-end apparel for geeks like her. She designs pieces that flatter the body, pulling from modern fashion trends, and helping her fellow geeks of the world to be both stylish and chic. She prefers a subtle geek nod in her designs, using silhouette, color, texture, and lines to tell the story of the character or fandom. Elhoffer is a high end line of clothes that is unique and distinctive. Designed and manufactured in the United States in Los Angeles, CA. High quality geek wear that celebrates a wide variety of fandom. Our first look took their Galactic collection on a geek test drive! This week we are taking a look at their Game of thrones Inspired collection called the “Queens of Winter Apparel”. My initial reaction to getting a hold of all of these dresses was “Hurry! Someone have a Game of Thrones themed wedding!” We think these dresses would work so wonderfully as bridesmaid dresses! But before I get carried away and start planning a winter wedding, lets take a look at each dress!

Queen of Fire Wrap Dress

HBO/Game Of Thrones

The Queen of fire Wrap Dress is inspired by the dress worn by Melisandre in HBO’s television series Game of Thrones. Portrayed by Carice van Houten, Melisandre, is a Red Priestess whose wields influence over some of the most important characters on the show.  On the show she is often called the Red Woman. The Queen of Fire Wrap Dress is a perfect modern representation of the dress worn on the show. The dress hits so many points on our closeness check list that we think this dress would be perfect for a cosplay of Melisandre. The dress even has those dramactic bell sleeves. If you wanna feel extra, this is your dress! The dress comes in both red and black, and is available in sizes XS-3XL. The dress is shorter hangs to below the knee, giving it a formal appearance. It is a true wrap dress. It has no buttons or zippers. It wraps around you and ties to close. The material is heavy and thick which we found was really great for keeping it in place when wrapping as well as for giving you flattering coverage in the waist line. The wrap around ties allow you to adjust and create where your waistline begins. The same heavy fabrics, while very flattering on waist, can be overwhelming on the bust line. I suggest wearing a long line bra or corset/bustier that offers plenty of support for a heavy gown.

Queen of Dragons Hi-Low Dress

HBO/ Game Of Thrones
HBO/ Game Of Thrones

The Queen of Dragons Hi-Low Dress is another perfect example of something that can be used as a cosplay. This Daenerys Targaryen inspired dress is easily recognizable to us geek as one of the dresses worn by the Mother of Dragons, but it’s cute and modern enough to wear it outside the convention floor. The Elhoffer Design dress mirrors the original dress in a very modern way. This dress has the same shoulder structure, v-neck, and even the back cut out as the dress on the show. The dress comes in both teal and black, and is available in sizes XS-3XL. We love that it is short in the front and long in the back. It gives it a flirty yet elegant feel. We paired this dress with boots, heels and wedges. We think it’s interesting how this dress can go from formal to flirty based on the shoes that it’s paired with it. We do warn that the long part of the dress is very long. For some of our models, had they not been wearing high-heeled shoes, the dress would have touched the floor. Depending on your height and the shoes you plan to wear, you may have to have it hemmed. This dress has plenty of stretch in the waist but has less stretch at the bust line. So as always, we reccommend you check the size chart before ordering. This dress does tend to wrinkle easily, so keep that in mind while sitting or wearing the dress while in the car. Like with any gown, we recommend straightening out the dress before sitting.

Queen of Ashes Dress

The Queen of Ashes Dress is the most subtle of the dresses in this collection. The design is a lovely nod to Queen Cersei Lannister. Who if you don’t watch Game of Thrones is super cray cray! Like Boss lady cray cray, so you have to admire her. And I am definitely admiring this dress. This piece is really great and sustainable. The design is classic. I could wear this to multiple occasions. But I am particularly fond of the idea of a Game of Thrones themed wedding! Somebody please make this happen. The neck is a little tight, so make sure you check the sizing chart before ordering to make sure it fits properly.

Pockets

All these dresses have pockets! DEEP pockets! Pockets that fit cell phones and keys and maybe even a wallet. But OMG! A formal dress that has pockets! We love that!

The Spin Factor

Every dress should spin the way Elhoffer Design dresses spin! I know this is the Queens of Winter Collection, but they kinda make you feel like a Disney Princess when they spin!

From the XS to the 3XL these dresses are flattering and fun! My only question to the company is why don’t they come in White? I want to get married in all of these! Love them!
