Temple of Geek’s “This Week in Geek” June 26, 2021

Halloween came early this week. Batman: The Long Halloween Part One was released. Jensen Ackles (Supernatural, The Boys) and the late Naya Rivera (Glee) are the voices of Batman and Catwoman, respectively.

His Dark Materials began production on its third and final season. This final season will be based on the third book in Philip Pullman’s trilogy, The Amber Spyglass. The season is being shot at the Wolf Stages Wales as well as on location throughout Wales and England.

We saw a lot of new trailers this week with enough variety to please everyone. We saw new trailers for the horror film Candyman, and James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Disney Plus also showed us new trailers for the original series Turner & Hooch, based on the 1989 film. Also, Disney Plus revealed a new mid-season trailer of The Bad Batch.

In a recent showcase video, we got new insights on the development and the Snowdrop engine for Ubisoft’s “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.” The upcoming action-adventure game brings the world of Pandora to life, engaging players in an immersive open-world experience.

A new Supernatural spin-off called The Winchesters is currently in the works with the CW and Chaos Machine Productions, a company established by Supernatural stars Jensen and Danneel Ackles. The Winchesters is planned to be a prequel to the long-running show that tells the tale of Sam and Dean’s parents, John and Mary Winchester. Jensen Ackles is set to return to narrate the show as Dean. Though it is in early development, as of right now, it does not appear that the other Supernatural stars, including Jared Padalecki (or Sam), have any involvement with the project.

Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron film now has a screenwriter on board. In a Hollywood Reporter exclusive, Matthew Robinson is the writer set to pen the upcoming Star Wars film. Robinson, whose credits include The Invention of Lying and Love and Monsters, is also attached to the upcoming Little Shop of Horrors film, currently in pre-production.
