The Comic Shop proudly allows Black nerds to embrace and celebrate their love for nerd culture unapologetically. It’s a show that is also for anyone who ever felt lonely or left out because you enjoy nerd culture. This show let’s you know that you have a safe space in it. The new workplace “mockumentary” comedy is a show that is written for and by nerds and it’s so refreshing. Not to mention a very catchy theme some performed by Flyana Boss.
After attending the premiere and watching the first two episodes, I’m a fan that needs a season 2! The first episode of The Comic Shop series is available on Awkward Virgo TV on YouTube. Episode will be updated weekly.
Meet The Cast of The Comic Shop
Cheyenne Ewulu (creator, head writer, stars as Stephanie Okeke) describes the show as “nerdy as hell” and expresses joy at sharing it with a diverse audience. She hopes the show inspires people to pursue their passions independently and not just wait on a big studio to make it happen. She also says that the support she recieved from the indie comic community was huge to her. They even donate their work for set dressing. Which means a lot of the comic seen within the show comes from indie comic book artists.

Zeno Robinson (stars as Keith Hendricks) sees his character as a more uninhibited version of himself, inspiring him to be more unapologetically himself. He got the role after Cheyenne DM’d him years ago about a proof of concept. Describes the show as “vibrant, funny, quirky,” and recommends various comic books for newcomers. He hopes Donald Glover would guest star in a potential season two.
Grayson Niles (stars Connor) explains his character’s journey of discovering his “closeted nerd doms” at the shop. A side he couldn’t express at home. He admits to being relatively new to comics but recommends “KISHA Demon Eater”. He is a fan of D&D. Don’t worry there is an episode for those who love D&D as well coming. He describes the show as having “energy, authenticity, pazazz.”
Shanae Cole (stars Dominique) found portraying Dominique, a character she describes as a “2.0” version of herself, to be a lot of fun, allowing her to exaggerate and be bold. She loved hearing the audience’s laughter at the premiere and hopes for a season two that allows viewers to get to know the characters more deeply. She describes the show as “energetic, needed, heart” and recommends checking out indie comics, including those featured in the show.
