The internet was in an uproar over the comment made by Entertainment and Arts Reporter for BBC News, Ian Youngs, in his post titled “How will the first female Doctor shake things up?”
“And what a great way to refresh a franchise, especially after four years of Peter Capaldi, who certainly wasn’t universally loved.”
Fans across the world are more than excited for Jodie Whittaker and her debut as The Doctor. What should have been a day of full celebration for the Thirteenth Doctor’s red carpet premier in Sheffield was left bittersweet with fans feeling betrayed by the network they so love. And although we know everyone has their own unique taste in Doctors, the Internet made sure to let Mr. Youngs know just how they felt about Peter Capaldi! The hashtag #TheUniverseLovesPeterCapaldi started to trend across all social media platforms with photos, fond memories, memes, cosplay photos, and more in defense of the previous Doctor.

Peter Capaldi is inspirational, his love for Doctor Who shined through in every episode. He likes his fans, he listens to them. Peter Capaldi will always be my favourite Doctor. #TheUniverseLovesPeterCapaldi pic.twitter.com/vCxtmhr4IN

On a day when we're supposed to be celebrating Jodie, we're having to defend Peter. This shouldn't be happening. For someone at the BBC to throw him under the bus is wrong in every way, shape, and form. As Twelve said at the end, be kind. #TheUniverseLovesPeterCapaldi https://t.co/WZL2Skz0lS

To say such a horrible thing today, about a great actor who played a fantastic incarnation of the greatest hero of television. It was pretty low. Considering he was a big fan of the show since childhood too. Capaldi is one of us and he is defended. #TheUniverseLovesPeterCapaldi

Me when a BBC reporter dares to imply Peter Capaldi damaged the show because he wasn’t "universally loved." from doctorwho
I loved Capaldi as The Doctor. I hated the SJW/PC scripts that were full of Leftist/Socialist/Feminist/Man-hating propaganda. The stories for the last two seasons were horrible. The only thing worth watching was Capaldi trying to make chicken soup out of chicken $hit.
