The Legend of Vox Machina: Crew & A episode 1 hits Critical Role’s YouTube channel today! The series gives you a look behind the scenes and introduces you to some of the crew at Titmouse; the animation team working diligently to bring the story of the heroes we know and adore to life for this new Amazon Original.
What is the Legend of Vox Machina?
In March of 2019, Critical Role launched a Kickstarter to help fund an animated special centered around their first campaign. The original series focused on a group of adventurers known as Vox Machina — Pike Trickfoot (gnome cleric, Ashley Johnson), Keyleth (half-elf druid, Marisha Ray), Percival “Percy” Fredrickstein Von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III (human gunslinger, Taliesin Jaffe), Grog Strongjaw (goliath barbarian, Travis Willingham), Scanlan Shorthalt (gnome bard, Sam Riegel), Vex’ahlia (half-elf ranger, Laura Bailey), and Vax’ildan (half-elf rogue, Liam O’Brien) — fast forward 45 days later and over 11 million dollars raised, they have enough to fund an animated series.
The series is going to be ten episodes long; the first two episodes will be a brand new story centered on Vox Machina. The rest will spotlight the first campaign’s most popular story: the Briarwood arc.
The Crew
That’s where Titmouse comes in. Introduced by Critical Role cast member and The Legend of Vox Machina executive producer Sam Riegel, Episode 1 of Crew & A acquaints viewers with the core crew working on the series and brief overview of what they do. Over the next few months, viewers will continue to get to know the team and learn more about the series, too.
Featured crew includes:
- Elizabeth Schantz, writers room production assistant
- Karen Guo, storyboard artist
- Cassey Kuo, storyboard artist
- Marvin Britt, storyboard revisionist
- Joseph Martinez, background designer
- Victoria Thornberry, color designer
- Rebecca Ung, production coordinator
- Young Heller, episodic director
- Alicia Chan, episodic director
As someone who watched the entirety of the first campaign during quarantine (that’s right, all 300+ hours), I couldn’t be more excited for this series. The level of storytelling and attention to detail is phenomenal. I can’t wait to see what the team at Titmouse does with the Briarwood arc and how it translates into animated form.
