Joined by her colleague and friend, Suhaila (SuTheories), the podcast delves into a spoiler-filled review of the latest installment of this beloved fantasy series. For those yet to experience the season’s twists and turns, a word of caution: proceed with haste to your viewing platform, and return here after.
Temple of Geek Reviews “The Wheel of Time” Season 3: Magic, Costumes, and Twists
Suhaila kicks off the review expressing her fervent enthusiasm for The Wheel of Time. Placing it among her favorite fantasy shows, a prestigious list that includes the likes of “The Rings of Power” and “The House of the Dragon”. However, Suhaila emphasizes a unique quality that sets The Wheel of Time apart: “like the magic in it is just something else”. This distinctive magical element, combined with a narrative that strengthens with each passing season. It has solidified Suhaila’s loyalty since season one. “Every season just keeps getting better,” she declares.
While expectations were high for season 3, the execution surpassed them. Leaving Suhaila in awe of the visuals, the intricate storytelling, and the sheer impact of the season’s pivotal moments. The introduction of new elements and deeper explorations into the Wheel of Time’s world has only amplified her excitement for what lies ahead.
The vastness of the Wheel of Time’s world fuels Suhaila’s anticipation for potential future seasons. The prospect of witnessing more of this rich tapestry unfold on screen, beyond the pages of the books, is a driving force behind her hopes for a season 4 renewal. Prime Video has demonstrated a commitment to investing in its flagship fantasy series, such as The Rings of Power, which offers a promising indication for the continued journey of The Wheel of Time. “I’m hoping it officially gets renewed for season four, I don’t know why they wouldn’t, this show’s been doing so well,” Suhaila states.
Costume and Makeup Design
Kari emphasizes the consistent high quality of the show’s costume and makeup design across all seasons. She highlights Suhaila’s interviews with Davina Lamont, head of hair, makeup, and prosthetics, and Sharon Gillam, the costume designer. Suhaila shares her positive impressions of the interviews, noting the passion and dedication the designers bring to their work, even in brief scenes.
Analysis of Key Plot Points and Scenes
The conversation flows into specific scenes and plot points, highlighting the season’s intense opening. “That first episode just hit us right,” Kari exclaims, with Suhaila adding, “Hit the ground running. If ever a show or season just like hit the ground running. It was like season three”. The reviewers were immediately captivated by the Black Ajah’s swift exposure and the subsequent battle, showcasing the diverse uses of the One Power. “And that battle was wild. And we got to see the different forms of using the one power,” says Kari.

The narrative’s complexity deepens with the introduction of characters like Elida, whose presence and costuming left a lasting impression. “When I saw her, I was like, yes, queen. She always has a presence in whatever she does. So seeing her there and the way that she was dressed with that beautiful Isidai costuming. Amazing,” says Kari. The reviewers also discuss Perrin’s journey to the Two Rivers, the introduction of new customs, and the emotional weight of character development. “It was really nice to see Perrin finally be able to do that,” says Kari.
The strength of Episode 4, “The Road to the Spear”
Episode 4, in particular, is lauded for its cinematic quality and storytelling. “That episode was incredible on so many fronts,” Suhaila remarks, highlighting the exceptional work in storytelling, makeup, costuming, and prosthetics. “The storytelling, the makeup, costuming, prosthetics, all of that. The, like, what we see the characters go through. The actual, like like, it was just such a cinematic experience going through, like, it was just this beautiful journey that they go through,” says Suhaila. The exploration of the Age of Legends and the intricate details of Rand’s trial are discussed with great admiration. “Like we just got like that episode was just so beautifully crafted beginning to end and like the visuals, the CGI, the like, like, oh, man, it was just so beautiful. It was so beautiful,” says Suhaila.

The Aiel’s history and culture receive considerable attention, with the reviewers delving into the nuances of their traditions and the stark contrast between the Aiel and the Tuatha’an. “We see his blood ancestors. We don’t see his soul being churned out several times,” says Suhaila. “Like we get to see them in modern day and we get to like know them in modern day and they’re like polar opposites, like the best warriors in this entire world. And people who, like, will not raise a finger, create any, do any sort of violence, no matter how minuscule, because they really believe that,” says Suhaila.
Character Development and Relationships
The reviewers also discuss the complex relationships and character arcs within the show, particularly focusing on Rand, Egwene, Nynaeve, and Matt. The evolution of Rand’s character and his relationships, especially with Moraine and Egwene, are analyzed in detail. “And then, and you see, like, Moraine suspended. You also see Avienda suspended. The horror that’s on their face and, like, the overwhelm that they’re experiencing,” says Suhaila. Nynaeve’s internal struggles and her journey to accepting her power are also a significant point of discussion. “Like girl, you are all powerful. You are the most powerful right now. Bring that out. Trust in yourself, believe in yourself,” says Kari.

Themes and Speculations: Power, Sacrifice, and Destiny
The exploration of themes such as power, sacrifice, and destiny, as well as the intricate mythology of the Wheel of Time universe, are also discussed. The reviewers delve into the nature of the Dark One and the concept of balance within the One Power. “I feel like there has to be some really big sacrifice that takes place and maybe it’s not Rand maybe it’s like somebody else maybe it’s Egwene maybe it’s one one of the others um but there has to be like a really big sacrifice I think to like finally fully defeat the dark one and not just imprison him or just you know like put and you know ah get rid of his influence or whatever,” says Suhaila.

To conclude their review, Kari and Suhaila express their excitement for the future of The Wheel of Time, acknowledging the various unresolved plotlines and the immense potential for season 4. “Season four cannot come enough,” says Kari. They praise the show’s ability to continually expand its scope and deepen its narrative, leaving viewers eagerly anticipating the next chapter in this epic saga. “And there’s still so much story to tell,” says Suhaila.
