Time Lord Victorious is the BBC’s brand-new, multi-platform Doctor Who story! Titan Entertainment‘s Andrew Sumner discusses the new Time Lord Victorious comic series with writer Jody Houser, artist Roberta Ingranata, colorist Enrica Eren Angiolini, editor Jake Devine, senior creative editor David Leach and BBC producer James Goss.
The Time Lord Victorious project is unlike any other Doctor Who story ever told. Not only will this be a comic book series, but there will also be audio dramas, novels, immersive theater, toys, an escape room, and other avenues of story-telling.
James Goss said,
“This thing [Time Lord Victorious] is massive, and it’s really fun. Actually getting to see stuff…my life is literally being paid to listen to audio drama, read manuscripts of novels, and read comics. This is never going to happen in my life again! And, it’s really very fun… You genuinely want this to be the Doctor Who project that you can take home to meet your mum. It is Doctor Who that is accessible. It’s epic. It’s awesome.”
Andrew Sumner asked each of the panelists what their first entry into Doctor Who was and who their favorite Doctor is. After everyone answered, Sumner said:
“The great thing about Doctor Who is it traverses generations and cultures. I think that it’s all things to all people, which I think is such a wonderful thing.”
As a colorist, Enrica Eren Angiolini brings emotion and depth to the pages of the comic books. Not only is she working with color theory to bring feelings onto the page, but she also keeps the familiar color pallet fans know and love. The smaller details can really bring the characters to life.
This a big, epic project, and now the team has to work on it during a global pandemic. Thankfully, each licensee involved (Big Finish Audio, immersive theater, etc.) has found a way to make everything work. Comic artist Roberta Ingarata said that being able to keep working on the project, even from home, was incredibly helpful. She found that it kept her whole and busy in the best way.
Time Lord Victorious will begin its release in September 2020 with comic issue #1 on 2 September 2020. A new piece of the story will be released every week over twelve weeks.
