On Friday, June 29th 2018, Toys “R” Us closed their doors for the last time across United States. At least, we thought it was for the last time. News broke earlier today that that all of Geoffrey, LLC’s assets were acquired by a group investors led by existing secured lenders.
Guess who’s back? He’s been traveling across the globe for the past few months but now #GeoffreysBack and once again ready to set play free for children of all ages. This announcement was made right after a five month marketing effort that resulted in several proposals to acquire all of the intellectual property assets. It was determined that the existing lenders produced the best offer. This means that Toys “R” Us is coming back! Of course there is some legal hurdles that will need to happen before we see the doors of our favorite toy store open again.
Geoffrey, LLC, as reorganized, will control a portfolio of intellectual property that includes trademarks, ecommerce assets and data associated with the Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us businesses in the United States and all over the world, including a portfolio of over 20 well-known toy and baby brands such as Imaginarium, Koala Baby, Fastlane and Journey Girls. The reorganized company will own rights to the Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us brands in all markets globally, with the exception of Canada. It will also become the licensor of the brands to the company’s existing network of franchisees operating in countries across Asia, Europe and the Middle East, and in South Africa.
The new owners are currently working on developing new ideas for Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores in the United states. They are looking into new and re-imagined ways to bring the iconic brands back to the masses.
Here are what some of the fans of Toys “R” Us are saying.
