The Walking Dead’s Scott Gimple at The 51st Saturn Awards

The Walking Dead’s Scott Gimple, and stars Norman Reedus and Danai Gurira were in attendance at The 51st Saturn Awards. The 51st Annual Saturn Awards took place on Sunday, February 4th, and were hosted by Joel McHale.

In attendance among the many cultural icons including Nicholas Cage, Ernie Hudson, Sean Gunn, and James Cameron. For over five decades, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror has fueled the imaginations of fans and creators alike. Established in 1972, this non-profit organization celebrates genre excellence through the Saturn Awards, screenings, and industry support.

Scott Gimple served as showrunner for The Walking Dead television series from seasons 4 to 8, and is currently the Chief Content Officer of AMC’s The Walking Dead Universe, overseeing multiple shows like “Fear the Walking Dead” and “World Beyond,” as well as developing new projects like The Ones Who Live.

Gimple spoke to reporters on the red carpet of the Saturn Awards about the impact that The Walking Dead franchise has made on pop culture.

“We were part of the culture, the genre culture going mainstream. There was a time when even in genre or in the comics and in science fiction, that zombies were in the small room of the convention, the beat-up VCR, the crappy TV. And I think The Walking Dead has shown us that zombie stories are genre stories. They are using inhumanity, using inhuman things to tell human stories, is something that people can love. And culture is exploding and we were part of that.”
