Halloween Horror Nights is an event at Universal Studios. The event has mazes and scare zones. It is an event that has been happening sporadically since 1992. As of 2006 this event has been consistent year after year. As the years go on it has become one of the it events to go to during Halloween Season.
Universal Studios closes early to the general public early and re opens to host Horror Nights. Average price for the event is $90.00. You have the option to customize you ticket. You are given the option to add things like early entrance to the event. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. If you choose early entrance you can get there as early as 2:00 p.m. Take advantage of Universal rides and get early access to mazes. This is a bonus and we highly recommend it. The lines for the mazes can vary in time; at certain points the lines for mazes can be up to 3 hours. If you love being frightened and all things spooky this is the event to attend.
This year Halloween Horror Nights paid tribute to Stranger Things. Stranger Things is a Netflix show based in the 1980’s. It has a nice throwback feel to it. It is eerie and full of suspense. The Stranger Things maze was the first one we went to. We knew it would have the biggest wait time, so we go in line at 5 pm. We were able to knock it out within 30 minutes. Later on throughout the night we saw that this maze had a wait time of 3 hours. This was a nice maze that was held in a sound stage. The music and Demogorgons did not disappoint. If you love the show you will love the beauty of the set for the maze. The maze walks you through season one of Stranger Things. You get to see actors dressed as the fictional characters from the show running around throughout the maze.
Other mazes included Trick of Treat, The First Purge, Poltergeist, Halloween 4, Blumhouse Chapter 2, Universal Monsters and the Terror Tram. Most of these mazes are themed after movies. The exception would be the Terror Tram and Universal Monsters. The Terror Tram is the Universal Studio tram ride. You ride the tram and it takes you into the back lot by the Psycho house. At this point you get off and can take a picture in front of the Psycho house with Norman Bates. After that you walk through this hillbilly maze and psycho killer clowns and crazy psycho hillbillies try to kill you with fake knives and chainsaws.
The Universal Monsters maze is an homage to all the old movies. Such as Frankenstein, Phantom of the Opera, Werewolves and more classic films. We throughly enjoyed this. In a time where horror movies have gone in a different direction from where it started; it was refreshing to see classic horror being brought out again and done very well.
Halloween 4 was our last maze of the night. Anyone who is a fan of the Halloween series will love this maze. It truly does look like the movie. The set was done very well. Rooms resembled the movie exactly. The only thing that was excessive was the amount of Michaels. There were way to many Michael Myers running around that it seemed like more of a parody then actual horror. It did have its scare moments but I feel it felt a bit flat since it didn’t give our group that many jumps or scares like other mazes did. Even though it missed the super horror mark, we still recommend you go into the maze especially if a fan of this movie series.
There is so much to see and do. Highly recommend you go if you have never gone before. Halloween is next Wednesday but they will be open until November 4th. There is plenty of time for you to still go. Let us know what you thought of Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights.
