Xolo Maridueña talks about Blue Beetle and the Actor’s Strike

Temple of Geek’s Victoria Male: So I guess we should start with Blue Beetle because this summer you weren’t allowed to talk about it. So how does it feel, again, just to play a superhero?

Xolo Maridueña: I mean, it feels surreal. I can’t believe that I’m a superhero. But at the same time, I’m so excited to get to share this experience with the rest of the world. You know, obviously, like you mentioned, I wasn’t able to talk about it during the strike, but everyone involved is going to be behind the camera. People like yourself, help remind me that, you know, the movies are so much larger than, like, the release date. And that, you know, this project and this moment in history will stand the test of time long after at the box office, we get so, so excited. It’s been a great ride and I can’t wait to do it again.

Xolo Maridueña discusses Cobra Kai and martial arts training

Victoria: So were you able to take stuff from Blue Beetle, and apply all your martial arts training to Cobra Kai?

Xolo Maridueña: Yeah. I mean, it happened. It was a little bit like, you know, both. Both ways. Yeah. The speed that we work on Cobra Kai, and the amount of stretching that I do, definitely helped me for something like Blue Beetle. And then, you know, being able to be number one on the call sheet and lead on this movie helped me understand what that’s like to go back to Cobra Kai and look at, you know, Ralph and Billie are number one and two is who you know so effortlessly navigated this seasons, so it both helped. And now that we’re back in this last season of Cobra Kai, I’m using all of the little tools that I used at Blue Beetle to help me get through the season.

Victoria: How does it feel to be recognized by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films?

Xolo Maridueña: Yeah, it is an honor. You know, when we were filming this, I was having the most fun ever. I wasn’t thinking about any nominations or even what people would think in the theater or whatnot. So to be recognized as a is an honor.
