The list was announced this morning with some surprises along with some obvious nominees.
Missing from the list was best picture hopeful, Dreamgirls and to a smaller crowd Children of Men. Borat was nominated in the best adapted screenplay category, but no acting nod for Sacha Baron Cohen.
1. Best Picture:
“Babel,”
“The Departed,”
“Letters From Iwo Jima,”
“Little Miss Sunshine,”
“The Queen.”

Yeah you read right. Yup. BEST NEWS EVER. Nobody saw this coming. For all we knew Zack de la Rocha was in Cuba somewhere supposedly working on new material that may never be heard by us mere mortals, and as for the rest of RATM, they have been enjoying success with Chris Cornell as Audioslave for the past few years. But this is the news we all longed to hear. Even as I type this I still cannot believe it myself. To this day there is no band IMO that comes close to Rage Against The Machine and I always felt bad knowing I’d never seen them perform live. Unfortunately this isn’t going to change.
Details are scarce at the moment but it has been confirmed that RATM will be reuniting for a performance at this years Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (April 27th -29th) in Indio, California. RATM will be playing on the final night (Sunday April 29th 2007). Tickets go on sale January 27th.

As I was flipping through the channels last night, looking for anything to watch. I became more and more frustrated at what was on 90% of the channels. And even more frustrated at what the networks are feeding us on a nightly basis. From Wife Swap to Nanny shows, to Flavor of Love spin off “I love New York”, I wanted to shoot myself in the head rather than have to put up with the amount of crap being put on all of these networks. As I went back and forth from channel to channel, I wondered what the decision process was for some of these shows, how do they get on time after time, how do they get approved, and who is approving a TV show that is the equivalent of a kick in the balls. Of course it quickly became obvious to me that the only reason I have to choose from 100 horribly stupid shows and 4 good ones, is that this is what America is asking for!

The Second Trailer for the upcoming Transformers Live Action Movie is online. As those few of you that have been reading my posts and rants know, I am not a fan of this movie. I did however get some level of enjoyment out of this trailer. That level of enjoyment was provided by the special effects. You get to see some of the Transformations of the characters, more specifically, Optimus Prime.
As in my previous rants, the characters still aren’t even close to looking like the originals. As Prime is such an Icon, I don’t understand why the makers of this film are not sticking to the original. Yes, I know they said they tried to make Prime a closed-cab semi but it didn’t look good…MAKE IT LOOK GOOD! The technology is available to make it Awesome and true to it’s origins!

I thought I would give you all a heads up to an upcoming movie! On June 15th, the second installment of the Fantastic Four will hit theaters! It will be called “Rise of the Silver Surfer”
I just saw the trailer that has been on quicktime since late December. As a comic book fan and a movie fan, I will tell you…this movie makes me happy!!!
Silver Surfer makes his Grand Appearance and is EXACTLY how I pictured him when I was reading the comics as a kid! The quality of visual effects makes the character visually appealing to the same degree of the Spiderman films. I feel that a huge reason Spiderman is doing so well is that the characters for the most part look and move like the comic books portrayed. This is a huge draw to the films and should really bring a crowd to this film! Continued…

The AFI has released its list of the best movies and television shows of 2006.
The list is usually a good indicator of Oscar contenders as well as other must see movies and TV shows of the year. There are the usual suspects in the TV category, 24, West Wing, The Wire and South Park once again. But some new ones have shown up this year too. One of my personal favorites, The Office makes a long overdue appearance on the list this year, along side the break out hit of the season, Heroes. In the movie category there are some surprises I wouldnt have thought of at all. The Devil Wears Prada and Happy Feet, which didnt catch too much buzz through the year but are starting to appear on some top lists which caught me off guard. The one I’m really glad to see on the list is Sacha Baren Cohen’s Borat. The mockumentary that caused all kinds of lawsuits and hysteria is getting huge praise from everywhere. I’m glad to see such a movie make the list, and not get bypassed in the last few months of the Oscar drive for studios.

Yup, it’s happening yet again. Rocky: The Definitive Edition will be released in the UK on 15th of January to coincide with the release of ‘Rocky Balboa’ (essentially Rocky VI) on January 20th. This rehash ‘Definitive Edition’ will include remastered audio and video, and apparent ‘never seen before’ commentary’s and ‘making of’ documentary’s. How much fresh ‘making of’ footage can they possibly have left!?
This release will probably be greeted with a sigh rather than a smile from die-hard fans of the Italian Stallion. I’ve lost count of the number of redone Rocky DVD’s that have came and gone. Rocky Collecters Edition, Rocky Anthology, Rocky Ultimate Edition Anthology, off the top of my head. Come on, enough is enough. Rocky overload! And with the Bluray version of Rocky out a mere 3 days ago, whats the f#$%ing point?

I thought I would shed some more light on the Upcoming Live Action Transformers Movie, Directed by Michael Bay. If you sense any level of sarcasm and animosity in this rant…gosh…I guess that would be the point. It is no secret that I am not a fan of this movie.
For those out there that have interest in this movie but may not be familiar with the origins, I thought I would show you a couple of “liberties” the so-called writers and director have taken with this film.
In my “un-biased opinion” (go figure that one out), the most important element to every great movie are the characters. Creating new characters can be a challenge for any film maker. If the writer and director allow for enough time and integrate it into the story well, character development can make a movie great! It can also create a character that is memorable and in demand…ie..sequels or “same world” stories. Continued…
