Temple of Geek’s “This Week In Geek” August 2nd, 2021

The world of pop culture and geek is always changing. There seems to be a lot of news every week with comic books, television, film, and video games. Aaron walks us through the news for this week in geek, August 2nd, 2021.

The biggest news for Whovians this week was learning that star Jodie Whittaker and showrunner Chris Chibnall will depart the Tardis after 2022. The announcement came with the news that Whittaker’s final run as the Thirteenth Doctor will continue with a new season airing later this year, and a series of specials next year. Chibnall said that he had Jodie had already planned to step down together after three seasons and a special, and her tenure is about the same as the previous Doctors.

Scarlet Johansson has sued Disney for a breach of contract related to the simultaneous streaming and theatrical release of Black Widow. The company has pushed back, citing the pandemic, and claims Johansson has no merit to the suit. Emma Stone, whose Cruella had a similar Disney Plus and Theatrical premiere, is reportedly also considering her legal options.

Jungle Cruise is the latest Disney film to be released theatrically and as part of Disney Plus premiere access, debuting this week. We have a review on our website.

The animated series Master of the Universe: Revelation debuted on Netflix this week. There have been some mixed reviews from long-time fans of He-Man and Masters of the Universe — check out Aaron’s thoughts on the show on our website.

This week, we learned that the Marvel series Hawkeye will premiere on November 24. We got our first look at the upcoming Disney Plus series, which stars Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton and Hailee Steinfield as an archer and Hawkeye-fan Kate Bishop.
