It’s finally here! The long-awaited trailer for the upcoming film, Thor: Love and Thunder, from Disney and Marvel Studios along with the first glimpse at a new poster!
The upcoming film, which is set to premiere on July 8, 2022, is the first movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise to have its fourth feature of its titular character.
In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. However, his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
A Few Thor: Love and Thunder Trailer Takeaways and Reaction
It appears that Thor, after suffering multiple losses from his history in the MCU and countless battles, seeks some peace, but we know that such peace won’t last long. The trailer opens with Thor running through a forest while showing a quick evolution of his growth, including what appears to be a costume with a nod to his classic look from the comics. The use of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by rock group Guns N’ Roses in the trailer provides a very interesting musical choice in the trailer, but remains in line with the tone and what we’ve seen so far about the film. The Guardians of the Galaxy also make an appearance in the trailer, but noticeably absent is Gamora from the roster. Also, how awesome was it to see Russell Crowe as Zeus and being surrounded by the lush visuals of Olympus.
There is also Tessa Thompson looking absolutely stunning in a lavish suit appearing in her new role as King of New Asgard. Finally, it was that last shot of the trailer that may leave fans awed and screaming as it gave us our first glimpse of Natalie Portman taking up the mantle as The Mighty Thor whilst grabbing the return of Mjolnir, although its appearance looks to be broken but put back together. Comic book fans may be familiar with her title as it was the same title for a Marvel comic book series by writer Jason Aaron where Jane Foster takes up the mantle as Thor. The trailer also gave us a good look at Portman and her swole arms as a result of the preparation that she has taken up for the role.
The train of excitement appears to be nonstop as fans are still gushing about the current Moon Knight series from Marvel Studios streaming on Disney Plus and the highly anticipated theatrical release of Marvel Studios Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The addition of the new Thor trailer is another MCU adrenaline shot for what’s to come in the following months and even the rest of the year. Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder is Directed by Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum. Thor: Love and Thunder opens in theaters July 8, 2022.
