Morgan’s Mask – Carolina Ravassa Interview at Anime Expo 2022

At Anime Expo, we talked with actress and producer Carolina Ravassa about her film, Morgan’s Mask. Carolina is an actor, a director, producer, writer and more. She is also a voice actor in animation and video games, such as voicing Sombra in Overwatch.

Interview with Carolina Ravassa

We asked Carolina what Morgan’s Mask is about and what audiences can expect when they watch the film. She said:

Morgan’s Mask is a film about a gamer and a cosplayer who’s stuck inside during the pandemic, like all of us. And she’s gotta go through some trials and tribulations to find herself and reconnect with her passion and self-love. And we see, you know, online conversations with her sister and mom and sister’s boyfriend. And then, she has a bit of a not-so-great relationship with her boyfriend who is played by Troy Baker, who is from The Last of Us. And so, it’s a film of discovery.”

This film will resonate with the cosplay community. We asked Carolina if she believes it will resonate with other audiences as well.

“Oh my gosh, absolutely. So definitely, yeah, comic con-goers in all fronts will connect I think because there’s a lot of little nuggets. We reference Star Wars and, you know, I cosplay My Hero Academia little cheerleader. And so there’s stuff that’s just very con-centric that I think will be fun. I think anybody who is on social media could connect because we compare ourselves, you know. Inadvertently we are looking at this thing and we go, ‘Oh, she’s so beautiful. I wonder if I could be like that’ or, ‘Looks like she’s having so much fun and I’m here depressed at home.’ Like, we do that all the time. So, I feel like it’ll help in that sense, I think those people will connect. And anybody who went through a pandemic…and honestly anyone who has dealt with mental health stuff or who has been in a toxic relationship.”

Morgan’s Mask is a love letter to the cosplay and fandom community. It takes the time to highlight the mental-health struggles, especially during and resulting from the pandemic. A story about the false persona we show the world, Morgan’s Mask revolves around a gamer, streamer, and cosplayer who is obsessed with her online presence and interacting with her fans. This film touches on the type of addiction that is only allowed to form because of the neglect one shows to other aspects of life. More importantly, it’s a film about self-care and self-love, and learning that before we can give all the love we wish to share with others, we must not forget to give to ourselves.
