Cosplay, or “costume play,” is a fun way for convention-goers and those involved in fandoms to express themselves, be creative, and make new friends.

We asked Seto how he started on his cosplay journey. He said:

“I’m a very simple man. I missed Halloween. Like, in October 2020, you know, the pandemic hit. There was no Halloween parties happening anywhere, and that’s like the only time I really get out and, like, have fun and just be around people. And then I realized, as I was going through TikTok, I was like, I see all of these amazing cosplayers that just like get into their favorite characters for the sole reason of just getting into them in their own house filming content…and I thought, ‘Wow, I really want to do that!’ And yeah, it just clicked.”

Seto does find that he needs to understand the characters that he chooses to cosplay. He said:

“I usually look up a lot of info for the character. Like, most of the ones that I do is My Hero Academia, which I have a lot of strong, emotional connections to most of the cosplays I do.”

He goes on to talk say, “I don’t like to do cosplays and not know anything about the character. I try not to do that.”

For the most part, the cosplay community is an inviting an welcoming place. Setosnooplong has found this to be the case among his mutuals from TikTok. We asked him what his favorite part of the cosplay community is, and he said:

“Just the people that I meet everyday. Like, my mutuals on TikTok are like probably my favorite thing about just being a part of cosplay. Because, like, the other day I was just hanging out with a couple of my friends that I’ve been talking to for, like, years. I just met them for the first time, and we all just hung out, got together…you just clicked like that. And that’s like one of the best feelings in the world.”
