San Diego Comic Con International (SDCC) was in full swing this year. We sat down at a round table interview session with actors Christy Carlson Romano and Will Friedle. Christy Carlson Romano is known for voicing Kim Possible in Disney’s animated series Kim Possible as well as having played Ren Stevens in Even Stevens. Will Friedle voiced Ron Stoppable in Kim Possible and played Eric Matthews in Boy Meets World. The two of them now host a podcast called “I Hear Voices.”
Interview with Will Friedle
We asked if Will Friedle had a dream guest he would like to invite onto the podcast. During their panel, he and Christy Carlson Romano announced that they are going to be running a contest in partner with iHeartRadio. Friedle said:
“We are actually starting a nationwide search to find the next big voice-over actor. And iHeart is going to be doing it with us. And the first major prize is you sign with my voice-over agency, CESD, for a year. So, everybody was very excited about that. So that is gonna allow us to bring on all the guests we want to bring on because we’re gonna have mentors for some of the contestants and some old-school directors are gonna come on and direct them. So, we’re keeping a list of all the people we want.”
Interview with Christy Carlson Romano
One of the highlighting moments of this round table interview was being able to sing a line from “We Went to the Moon in 1969” from the musical episode of Even Stevens. Christy explained that this episode of Even Stevens sparked inspiration for the High School Musical movies:
“When our musical episode tested off the – the ratings went off the charts for some reason, they started talking internally about doing High School Musical. And that was…verified to me by Gary Marsh.”
We asked if Christy had a favorite guest on “I Hear Voices.” She said:
“I cannot play favorites. I can say that my favorite person on the podcast is Will…I think that just having him as a partner in all of this, as a consistent partner, and learning from him because he does so many different, like, jobs. Like, he’s in the weeds of this voice acting world. I’m not as much as, you know, he is. Not only that, he’s a huge nerd!”
Audiences can listen to “I Hear Voices” with Will Friedle and Christy Carlson Romano on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, iHeart Radio, Amazon Music, and Audible.
